Quickflix - Australia's first streaming service - is back from the dead after going into voluntary administration and being acquired by the U.S.-based Karma Media Holdings earlier this year. The relaunched Quickflix still offers both DVD rental and Netflix-style streaming options, but the service has a new emphasis on new release movies and premium titles.
Quickflix's base service is now billed at $13.99 per month. While this is a bit pricier than the likes of Netflix and Stan, it also includes four new release movie rentals per month. Once you start watching a premium title, you have 48 hours from when you first start streaming in which you can view it; it can be watched as many times as you want within this period. Premium titles currently include Finding Dory, Captain America: Civil War, and The Jungle Book.
Additionally, Quickflix is still maintaining its DVD and Blu-Ray rental service. Billed at $19.99 per month, customers can have two discs out a time, and return discs for new movies as often as they like. Ostensibly, the only thing limiting how many movies you can "rent" per month is the speed of Australia Post.
Customers can combine online streaming and disc rental for $27.99 per month.
A two-week free trial of all three service tiers is available to new subscribers.
Alternatively, you're able to pay-as-you-go and rent new release movies for $5.99 a title.
