If you know your 'Hakuna Matatas' from your 'whole new worlds', then Disney Plus is the streaming service for you.
Since it launched in Australia back in 2019, the House of Mouse's streaming service has grown from being the home of classic Disney content to hosting new and original entertainment from a wide range of sources.
What is Disney Plus Australia?

Disney Plus is of course Disney's very own streaming service, pitched as the "exclusive home" to favourite childhood flicks from both Disney and Pixar, Marvel's superhero blockbusters, the Star Wars saga and more.
The service is home to Star, a content hub that features shows and movies from Fox Entertainment, ABC (American Broadcasting Corporation), FX and more. Plus, with National Geographic, there are plenty of documentaries on the platform for the whole family to enjoy.
You'll also find ESPN on Disney Plus with two channels ESPN and ESPN2, bringing you live action as well as game highlights, replays, documentaries and more.
Disney Plus price Australia
Disney Plus starts $15.99 per month in Australia. Alternatively, you can commit to a whole year upfront for a discounted price of $159.99. That essentially gets you two months for free. This plan allows for up to two simultaneous streams and up to 1080p HD.
The Premium Disney Plus subscription allows you up to 4K resolution stream quality with HDR support on up to four different devices at once. It costs $20.99 per month ($209.99 per year on the annual plan). By contrast, Netflix will charge you $25.99 for the equivalent perks. That makes Disney Plus look like a pretty good deal.
The Disney Plus smartphone and tablet app also allows offline downloads. There isn't a fixed number of shows or movies you can download to your device at a single time, so the only real restriction is the amount of storage you have left on your device. You can authorise up to 10 smartphones or tablets for simultaneous offline downloads, which is a lot more generous than what you'd get on Netflix or Stan.

Similar, to Netflix you can additional members to your account for $7.99 per month. You might do this if you want to share your Disney Plus account with members outside your household. They'll be able to watch Disney Plus on one screen at a time, at whatever quality you're signed up to such as 4K if you're on a Premium plan.
What can I watch on Disney Plus in Australia?

The Australian version of Disney Plus is home to over 2,000 movies and more than 800 TV series. You'll find Disney classics, Pixar movies and shorts, Marvel films and TV shows (even beyond the core Marvel Cinematic Universe), the Star Wars franchise, content from National Geographic and a variety of Fox Entertainment hits via Star (including 35 seasons of The Simpsons). Since 2023 new episodes of BBC cult sci-fi series Doctor Who also debut on the platform. It's also host to award-winning hits like comedy-drama The Bear and mockumentary Abbott Elementary as well as the critically acclaimed Only Murders in the Building. You can expect things that are a little different as well such as, the Alien franchise - cementing the Xenomorph's position as a Disney princess.
Via the ESPN hub on the home screen you can catch live sports or watch replays and sporting documentaries. ESPN is home to some of the most popular US sporting codes including NBL, NHL, Major League Baseball and UFC to name a few.
Much like its rival Netflix and other streaming services, Disney also produces exclusive, original content for its streaming platform. This includes new live-action Star Wars TV series like The Mandalorian, Andor and Ahsoka, original Marvel TV series, such as Loki, Ms. Marvel and Echo, and even a brand new adaptation of the beloved fantasy series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

What are the best internet plans for Disney Plus?
When it comes to the best internet plans for streaming it's not a matter of data but capacity. The majority of internet plans come with unlimited data and a maximum download speed. This speed is a shared resource.
We recommend at least an NBN 50 plan for families of between 2-4 people. On this speed tier, there's enough bandwidth for people in the household to stream different shows or use the internet for other things simultaneously.

What are the alternatives to Disney Plus in Australia?
Disney Plus is a great streaming service, but Australians also have plenty of options these days. You can also sign up for Netflix, Stan, Binge, Paramount Plus, Amazon Prime Video, BritBox, Hayu and Apple TV Plus. There are even free-to-watch TV options from ABC (iView), Ten (Tenplay), Seven (7Plus), Nine (9Now), and SBS (On Demand).
International streaming behemoth Netflix is one of Disney Plus's biggest rivals domestically. Netflix has a wide range of original content - including shows such as Stranger Things, Hearbreak High, Wednesday, Bridgerton, and more - but there's also a wealth of other shows, movies, and documentaries to discover.
Stan is a homegrown streaming service owned by Nine that offers a wide range of content, including originally-made TV shows and exclusive programming from the Showtime network. Popular exclusive shows include RuPaul's Drag Race, Killing Eve, Yellowstone, Breaking Bad, New Amsterdam and more.
Binge, Foxtel's take on a streaming service starts at $10 per month. You'll find plenty of big-name content you'd normally need to subscribe to Foxtel for, such as House of the Dragon, Euphoria, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
Amazon Prime Video is good value at $9.99 per month. The library isn't as extensive as what you'll find on Stan or Netflix, but it does have exclusive content, including The Boys, The Rings of Power, Reacher and Wheel of Time.

Does Disney Plus have ads?
No, in Australia Disney Plus hasn't introduced a Basic with ads tier as it has done in the US. Not yet at least. There is a possibility that the Basic plan with ads could arrive in Australia sometime in the future.
When it became an option in the US, the original Disney Plus plan received ads and Disney added a new more expensive Premium plan without them. In real terms, customers either ended up getting ads on their existing service or had to pay more to avoid them.
If you are viewing the live channels ESPN or ESPN 2 you may encounter advertising but you won't encounter them outside of the ESPN hub.
Does Disney Plus allow password sharing?
No, officially, Disney Plus subscriptions are not supposed to be used outside of your household. Disney Plus defines "Household" as the collection of devices associated with your residence and used by people who live there.
You can add a member to your account who exists outside of your Household for $7.99 per month. They'll get the same benefits as users on main account although they can only view on one screen at a time.

Can I access Disney Plus Premier Access in Australia?
Disney Plus Premier Access no longer exists. It was a way to buy new-release movies that weren't yet available on Disney Plus. It was like going to the movies, except instead of paying an arm and a leg for popcorn and shushing the teenagers making out next to you, you watch the new release from the comfort of your own home.
Premier Access was Disney's response to the pandemic - nobody could see new releases in the cinema, so they brought the cinema releases to the people.
