Move over free-to-air; homegrown streaming service Stan is increasingly becoming home to droves of exclusive must-watch TV. Here's nearly everything you might want to know about Stan.
What is Stan?

Stan was one of the first streaming services to launch in Australia. It's owned 100% by Nine Entertainment.
Stan's library is home to a host of Australian content including Stan Originals. In addition, the service has managed to shore up a number of international partnerships to secure exclusive rights to a number of popular franchises.
Plus there are plenty of older classic films and TV shows in Stan's catalogue.
How much does Stan cost?
Stan starts at $12 per month and is available in three different price packages. You get access to the same movies and TV shows on all plans.
The price you pay determines stream quality, the number of simultaneous streams you can have and the number of devices you save content to for offline streaming.
Here are Stan's streaming plans:
Here's how it compares to other major streaming services in Australia:

What are the best internet plans for Stan?
If you want to get the most out of a Stan subscription, you'll need an internet plan with enough speed for interruption-free viewing.
The majority of internet plans come with unlimited data so you don't need to worry about capacity. It's more a matter of speed, which is a resourced shared across the devices in your home.
We recommend signing up for a least an NBN 50 plan for households of between 2-4 people. Up to 50Mbps is more than enough bandwidth for different members of the household to be streaming on their own devices at the same time.

What are the alternatives to Stan?
Stan is a killer streaming service, but it's not your only option. Australians can also sign up for Netflix, Binge, and Amazon Prime Video, as well as access free catch-up options from ABC (iview), Ten (Tenplay), Seven (7Plus), Nine (9Now), and SBS (On Demand).
International streaming behemoth Netflix is one of Stan's biggest rivals domestically. Netflix has an excellent original content lineup - including shows such as Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, Baby Reindeer, Brigerton and more. But there's also a wealth of other shows, movies, and documentaries to discover.
Binge is Foxtel's own take on a streaming service. You'll find plenty of big name content you'd normally need to subscribe to Foxtel for, such as such as HBO hits Succession, The White Lotus, and The House of the Dragon.
Amazon Prime Video is another strong competitor in the originals department. Some of its blockbuster hits include The Boys, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Reacher and Wheel of Time.
Stan FAQs
Can I watch Stan on more than one device at once?
Depending on your Stan plan, you can watch on up to four screens or devices at once. Stan's cheapest plan only lets you view on one screen at a time, while the mid-tier option gives you simultaneous streaming on three screens.
Does Stan have a kid-safe option?
Yes, Stan allows you to set up a profile with "Kid" approved content. You can also set the profile up with "restriction by classification" which lets you limit content by its rating.
When creating a kid-friendly profile, you'll need to create a four-digit PIN. This will be requested whenever a kid-friendly profile tries to swap to another profile.
