We live in the era of peak television. There's so much new content coming out every month that it can be hard to keep up with. If only you could manage free-to-air television, streaming and your favourite cable TV channels in one place?
That's where Fetch TV comes in. A rival to Foxtel and Hubbl, Fetch TV is an alternative that you can also bundle with a plan from an internet provider. Fetch TV has range of TV packages as well as access to most of the popular streaming apps.
What is Fetch TV?

Fetch is an entertainment platform consisting of two parts. There's the set-top box and the digital programming you can use on the go.
Your Fetch TV set-top box works with your TV to provide access to free-to-air programming, streaming services, and over 50 channels. You can pause and rewind live TV and also record up to 585 hours of content to watch when you like. That's roughly 24 days.
Depending on who you purchase it from, you get thirty movies per month to watch on demand for free (or $1.99 per month). Fetch also offers a Movie Store and TV Store where you can rent or buy additional programming that's not included with the service. Finally, there's Fetch's Mobi app. With Mobi, you can access select channels via your phone or tablet.
Fetch is available to purchase from major retailers including The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi, Bing Lee and Harvey Norman. You can also order it via an internet provider such as Telstra.
Fetch TV box options
To get Fetch TV you require the all-important set-top box. However, you do have a choice between three different options. To get full functionality you'll need to get the Fetch TV Mighty. Then there's the cheaper Fetch TV Mini which comes in two versions, one with high definition and the other with 4K.
Any Fetch TV box can pause and rewind live TV, access your streaming services and free-to-air TV but you'll need the Mighty if you want to record.
To make sure you get the right Fetch TV box, have a quick read of our comparison between the Mighty and the Mini models here:

Note: The Gen 5 Fetch Mini, or Fetch Mini (G5) was released in June 2024. It is intended to replace the Fetch Mini 4K. It has all the same features but is powered by a new operating system called RDK. RDK will allow Fetch to develop new features faster. Fetch plans to migrate existing Mini 4K and Mighty boxes to RDK at a later date.
Fetch TV bundles
Entertainment and the internet go together like a fine red paired with aged cheese. That's why a handful of internet providers offer Fetch TV for purchase. You could even land a discount if you already have a broadband plan with them.
Telstra Fetch TV
As of 2022 Telstra is the majority owner of Fetch, so it comes as no surprise that you can get Fetch TV through the teclo.
When you get Fetch TV through Telstra you'll get three months free on the Ultimate Pack and Movie Box (normally $20 and $1.99 per month respectively). As a bonus, you can earn Telstra Plus points on your Fetch purchases and use them to rent and buy content on the platform. You don't need to be signed up for a Telstra internet plan to get Fetch TV through the telco.
With Telstra, you have the option of buying the Fetch TV box outright. $198 for the Fetch Mini 4k or $396 for the Fetch Mighty. There's also the option of paying over 12 or 24 monthly instalments.
Here are Telstra's NBN plans:
Where to buy Fetch TV outright
Fetch TV can also be bought separately instead of through an internet provider. If you'd prefer to buy the service outright, Fetch TV boxes are available from The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Domayne, Dick Smith and Kogan starting from $119.
Fetch TV channels
Out of the box, Fetch TV is a fairly straightforward experience. Even with the thirty on-demand movies included every month, if you want extra content beyond free-to-air, you’ll need to subscribe to one of their many channel packs for $6 per month. If you decide to bundle Fetch TV with your internet plan, you’ll usually be offered a premium channel pack to get you started.
There are four Premium Channel Packs, alongside special interest sort channels like beIN Sports and UFC, and several foreign language packs are available as extra add-ons.

Streaming apps on Fetch TV
In addition to channel packs, you can log in to your existing streaming apps via Fetch TV. Apps available on Fetch TV including Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount Plus, Stan, Britbox, Hayu, and more.
Fetch TV vs. Foxtel
Foxtel has been the big player for pay TV in Australia since its launch way back in 1995. But with so much more content these days thanks to streaming apps these days competitors like Fetch TV have popped up.
Fetch TV: best suited to households on a budget
Fetch TV has a smaller content library and by virtue of this is a much cheaper investment than Foxtel. Each of its channel packs can be added for $6 per month. These can be mixed and matched, or purchased together at a discounted price of $20 per month, giving you more flexibility than Foxtel. In addition to the channels within Fetch you can also access most of the streaming apps you're already signed up to including more obscure ones like Britbox and Hayu.
Foxtel: best suited to households with demand for more content
On the other hand, Foxtel is more expensive and less flexible. The basic Foxtel Plus + Favourites pack for example costs around $70 per month not including the cost of the iQ set-top box. You can get just over a 10% discount if you opt for a 12-month contract. While each package does include a tonne of content they all cost a fair amount of money. There's a premium pack for $140 a month that includes all channels but you can't bundle just the Sports and Movies packages alone, like you can with the equivalent on Fetch. Foxtel's iQ5 set-top boxes also support streaming services, but a smaller amount than Fetch. It doesn't support Stan, Hayu or Britbox.
Check out Foxtel's plans here:
Both platforms offer 4K Ultra HD content but are only available on the Fetch TV Mighty and iQ4 and iQ5 set-top boxes. At the end of the day, however, what is going to inform your decision is which set-top box has the shows you want to watch. If you enjoy lots of HBO content for example, you're not going to find that on Fetch.
Fetch TV vs. Hubbl
Compared to Foxtel, Hubbl is a much newer competitor. As well as being the company behind Binge, Flash and Kayo Sports, Hubbl also sells a set top box and all-in-one TVs.
You can see its range here:
Name | Type | Colour | Price | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hubbl | Set-top box | Black | $99 | |
Hubbl Glass (55-inches) | All-in-one TV | Black, Blue, Green, Pink and White | $1,395 | |
Hubbl Glass (65-inches) | All-in-one TV | Black, Blue, Green, Pink and White | $1,595 |
Hubbl has fewer entertainment options than Fetch mostly free-to-air streaming apps like ABC iView and others. Plus entertainment streaming apps Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV Plus and more. Binge, too of course where you will find all the HBO content you might be after.
The main benefit of Hubbl is that there are no other costs after the one-off charge for the set-top box or TV except for your streaming app fees. With Fetch you need to pay the ongoing fee to your provider to rent the box. Plus, you can receive a bill credit of up to $15 per month (for the first three years of use) when you have five eligible services bundled through Hubbl.
Eligible apps for 'stack and save' include Netflix, Binge, Kayo Sports, Flash, and Lifestyle. You can save just $5 with three eligible services or even $10 with four services so there's no need to sign up for all five eligible services to find some saving.
Fetch TV alternatives
If you’re not completely sold on the idea of Fetch TV, there are other options to choose from that don’t include crawling back to Foxtel. You could purchase a streaming device and connect all your streaming apps and Free-To-Air TV apps through that. Although it has the convenience of an all-in-one media manager, they don't include cable TV channels.
Binge should also be considered as an alternative even though it does not come with its own set-top box or streaming hub. Offering similar entertainment choices to Foxtel alongside its sister app Kayo Sports, Binge is another way to avoid paying expensive pay TV prices while still getting access to over 10,000 hours of TV and movies.
And here's a look at how Binge plans compare to other streaming services in Australia:
How much data does Fetch TV use?
Fetch TV requires a constant internet connection to access online television services. Thankfully most internet plans have unlimited data these days. You can expect Fetch TV to use around 1GB of data per hour for standard definition, and as much as 3GB of data per hour for HD streaming. If you have a Fetch TV Mighty, 4K streaming can use as much as 7GB per hour.
Using the Fetch TV guide
Just like the physical TV guide found in the newspaper, Fetch's TV guide allows you to see all the programming coming up over the next seven days across both Free-to-Air and Fetch TV subscription channels.
Accessing the Fetch TV guide is as easy as pressing the TV Guide button on your remote or navigating to the menu. The TV Guide is available from the Fetch website and the Fetch Mobi App too. The Fetch TV guide allows a great deal of functionality and customisation from setting recordings, adding or removing channels from your Favourites list, and accessing content from the past 24 hours.
