
Australian streaming service prices are on average 44% per month more expensive than they were a decade ago, according to research conducted by our sister website Reviews.org/au.
The report looks at the history of streaming service price rises since the launch of Presto in 2014. Ad-supported tiers are excluded from the data.
Amazon Prime Video has seen the most significant price hikes, with plans increasing by an average 117% over eight years. Prime Video launched $5.99 per month, and now costs $12.99 for an ad-free subscription.
Disney Plus followed, with plans now an average of 106% more expensive since the Australian launch. Disney Plus launched at $8.99 per month back in 2020, and will now set you back as much as $20.99 per month.
Netflix followed with an average price rise of 88%. The average cost of Netflix plan was $11.99 in 2015, which has grown to $22.49 this year.

The last couple of months have been turbulent for the streaming industry in Australia. International sports streaming service DAZN announced it was buying Foxtel. Netflix discontinued its Basic plan for customers still on it, forcing them to either move to an ad-supported tier or a more expensive option. Disney Plus and Kayo both increased prices. And Max announced its impending local launch, which will see a lot of content leave Binge.
