Binge is set to lose a range of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) titles including all HBO and Max Originals from April, WhistleOut can confirm.
WBD announced today that its own streaming platform, Max, will be launching in Australia on March 31.
Currently airing HBO and Max titles such as The White Lotus will complete their season run on Binge but other WBD content will be removed when Max launches.
While this is a significant blow for the streaming services' content library it will still host popular international series such as Saturday Night Live, Real Housewives Beverly Hills, Taskmaster, and other completed series such as the The Office (US) and The Walking Dead.
Binge will continue to invest in Australian content including its award-winning original series Colin from Accounts.
A new series executive produced by Nicole Kidman, The Last Anniversary based on Lianne Moriarty's novel of the same name will premiere March 27. Other shows in the pipeline include Mix Tape and Billion Dollar Playground, as well as returning shows Selling Houses Australia, Real House Wives of Sydney, The Twelve, and STRIFE.
The streamer also launched sports programming in December last year, with some live and on-demand content that was only previously available on Kayo Sports. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night matches for the NRL and AFL will also come to Binge later this month with no ad breaks during play.
With plans starting at $10 per month, Binge is one of the cheaper streaming services available in the country, it also offers annual plans with a discount for customers willing to commit to a year's subscription.
Foxtel the parent company of Hubbl (which owns Binge) has signed a deal with WBD. Foxtel subscribers will get access to a Max Basic with Ads plan for free with their existing Foxtel subscription.
Max's launch comes at a time of upheaval for the Australian streaming market which is becoming more competitive as streamers vie for space in the monthly household budget.
Disney Plus recently announced the imminent arrival of ESPN content while Foxtel itself is to be acquired by international sports streaming service DAZN, subject to regulatory approvals.
