Sports streaming service Kayo is increasing the price of its Basic plan to $40 per month from March 4, up from $35 per month. As part of the price rise, the Basic plan will be renamed Kayo Premium.
Kayo's cheaper plan - Kayo One - will be renamed Kayo Basic. Pricing will stay at $25 per month.
Other than the price increase and name change, the Kayo plans will have the same inclusions. The $25 per month plan Basic plan formerly known as Kayo One will still give you one simultaneous stream and a maximum of HD quality. Kayo Premium increases this to two streams and ups the quality to 4K for eligible content.
WhistleOut reached out to a Kayo spokesperson for comment on the price rise, but did not hear back in time for publication.
Existing Kayo customers will be notified of the price rise via email throughout the month of February.
While Kayo may be getting more expensive, there are still ways to save on it. Purchasing a digital membership to the AFL club of your choice includes one year of what will be called Kayo Premium. The price of digital membership can vary from club to club, but the Brisbane Lions are currently charging $350 for the year.
That's the equivalent of $29.16 per month, which is a solid saving compared to the current $35 price, let alone the impending $40 per price tag. If you're the kind of person who subscribes to Kayo year-round, it's not a bad deal.
If you have a Hubbl set-top box, you can save $5 per month on your streaming bill if you bundle at least three services. This increases to $10 per month with four services, and maxes out at $15 with five. Eligible streaming services include Netflix, Binge, Kayo Sports, Flash, and Lifestyle. You'll only get the discount for 36 months, however.
