Predator (1987), Predator: Badlands, Prey

The co-existence of the Alien and Predator franchises is no secret after the tease of Predator 2, two dedicated spin-offs, and even the trailer for Predator: Badlands made no secret of their shared space. But if you, like me, are more a Predator fan than an Alien fan, you're probably curious how to watch all of the Predator movies in Australia.

Not that you have to watch all of them. You can ignore the AvP spin-offs entirely and sleep happily at night. Plus, The Predator (2018) doesn't add anything of quality to the universe, so you can skip that, too. But with those disclaimers aside, there's more good than bad in the Predator franchise. And the even better news is you can stream every Predator movie with one subscription.

How to watch the Predator movies in Australia

No matter which Predator movie you want to watch in Australia, you can stream them all on Disney Plus. With a Disney Plus subscription, you'll get the following Predator movies:

  • Predator (1987)
  • Predator 2 (1990)
  • Predators (2010)
  • The Predator (2018)
  • Prey (2022)
  • Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

It's debatable whether they're part of the official Predator movie canon, but Disney Plus also has Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

Where do I stream Predator: Badlands?

At the time of writing, Predator: Badlands is still in theatres. If Badlands follows the typical trend, it'll stay in theatres for up to 90 days (depending on its popularity), then it'll be available for digital video-on-demand (VOD) renting and purchase.

A month or so after its digital release, Predator: Badlands will end up on Disney Plus. If it's not as popular with cinemagoers, expect Predator: Badlands to hit VOD and Disney Plus sooner.

Disney Plus has two different subscription tiers. For the cheapest option, get Disney Plus Standard with an upfront $159.99 annual fee ($13.33 monthly average) or for $15.99 per month. Disney Plus Standard comes with two simultaneous streams at up to Full HD resolution.

Alternatively, Disney Plus Premium costs $20.99 a month or $209.99 for a year ($17.50 monthly average). Premium allows for up to four simultaneous streams at up to 4K resolution.

What is the Predator series about?

The thing that binds the Predator universe together is the titular Predator. This extra-terrestrial species is aptly named because the ones we've met on the silver screen love to hunt. People, for the most part, but also any living thing that gets in their way. They're officially called the "Yautja" (pronounced ya-oot-ja), but they're more commonly referred to as "hunters" based on the setting or their temperament.

Predator (1987)

The Predator movie that started it all could've very well never hit screens or been a B-grade bomb had its original plans gone through with Jean-Claude Van Damme as a head-kicking lobster-looking extra-terrestrial. Instead, action guru John McTiernan directed an iconic tale about a crack team of commandos who meet their match in the Jungle Hunter. The cast of Predator includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, Richard Chaves, Shane Black, and Elpidia Carrillo.

Predator 2 (1990)

Predator 2 ditches the commandos and the jungle for a dystopian Los Angeles. The City Hunter, likely attracted to the potent heatwave/crime wave combo, is better equipped to take on terrestrial threats, except for Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, who's definitely too old for this summary. The cast of Predator 2 includes Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Bill Paxton, Maria Conchita Alonso, and 2.2-metre Kevin Peter Hall returning to embody the titular Predator.

Predator3 (2010)

Predators 3 isn't called Predators 3 at all, unless you squint and see the 's' in the title as a 3. Ahem. Predator3 is the first Predator movie not set on Earth. It sees a group of killers mysteriously kidnapped and dropped onto a deadly planet. They have to survive each other, the local flora and fauna, as well as a trio of Predator hunters: Tracker, Falconer, and Berserker. Outside of some solid homages and decent action, Predator3 shows us that not all Yautja see mask to mask. The cast of Predator3 includes Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, and Laurence Fishburne.

The Predator (2018)

On paper, The Predator should've been amazing. Shane Black, who was rumoured to do on-set on-the-fly rewrites of the original Predator, was recruited to write and direct a Predator movie with a decent budget and a series-appropriate mature rating.

But the results are, at best, mildly entertaining and, at worst, franchise-tarnishing. The Predator is about a kid who accidentally summons the Fugitive Hunter and something much, much worse. The Predator cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Prey (2022)

Prey may not have "Predator" in the title, but you only need to see its iconic font to know which universe it's set in. Instead of continuing the franchise's march into the future, Prey takes the story back to the 1700s and pits the colloquially (and aptly) named Feral Hunter against a group of hunters from the Comanche Nation.

The very serious technological discrepancy certainly makes for some outgunned humans. The cast of Prey includes Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, and Bennett Taylor.

Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

After a few years between Yautja bloodbaths, 2025 gave us two Predator flicks in the same year. The first is Predator: Killer of Killers, an animated anthology that shows Predators have been hunting hapless humans for a very long time. Most of Killer of Killers is split between three historical periods: the Viking era, feudal Japan, and World War II. The voice cast of Predator: Killer of Killers includes Michael Biehn, Rick Gonzalez, Lauren Holt, and Louis Ozawa.

Predator: Badlands (2025)

Instead of one or more humans being hunted, the new Predator movie flips the script and has a Predator as prey. Desk is a young Yautja who must survive an incredibly hostile planet while also battling even deadlier opponents. This is the first main Predator movie to have a lower classification, so don't expect too much in the way of hard-hitting gore. Predator: Badlands' cast includes Elle Fanning, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, Reuben De Jong, and Mike Homik.

Alien vs. Predator (2004)

Alien vs. Predator ditches the two core tenets of why Yautja come to Earth – heat and conflict – and kind of does its own thing in a very cold, very conflict-free Antarctica. A group of scientists rush to unlock the secrets of an ancient underground structure while caught between battling Yautja and xenomorphs. Alien vs. Predator stars Lance Henriksen, Sanaa Lathan, Raoul Bova, Ewen Bremner, Colin Salmon, and Tommy Flanagan.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)

According to IMDb, the second AvP movie is officially called AVPR: Aliens vs Predator – Requiem. That clunky title is the first clue to the quality of this forgettable follow-up, which somehow manages to be worse than its already disappointing predecessor. Local Colorado residents must fight to survive being stuck between a spreading xenomorph threat and the Predator (Wolf) sent to stop the xenos. The Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem cast includes John Ortiz, Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth, and Johnny Lewis.

What order should I watch the Predator movies in?

Like the Alien franchise, you've got two main options for viewing Predator movies: release order or by the in-universe timeline. Here's the viewing order if you're watching the Predator movies by release order:

  1. Predator (1987)
  2. Predator 2 (1990)
  3. Alien vs. Predator (2004)
  4. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
  5. Predators (2010)
  6. The Predator (2018)
  7. Prey (2022)
  8. Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)
  9. Predator: Badlands (2025)

And here's how to watch the Predator movies in chronological order according to the in-universe timeline:

  1. Predator: Killer of Killers (set in 841/1609/1942/unknown futuristic date)
  2. Prey (set in 1719)
  3. Predator (set in 1987)
  4. Predator 2 (set in 1997)
  5. Alien vs. Predator (set in 2004)
  6. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (set in 2004)
  7. Predators (set in an unknown contemporary date)
  8. The Predator (set in 2018)
  9. Predator: Badlands (set in an unknown futuristic date)

Those unknown dates somewhat complicate things. It matters less for Predators because the real-world references functionally align with the 2010 release date. But you may want to do a slight 'machete order' with Killer of Killers by watching the first two stories, then Prey, followed by the World War II story. When the World War II story comes to its logical end, stop there and revisit the final section of Killer of Killers before watching Predator: Badlands.
