You can now get started with Starlink for no upfront hardware cost thanks to a new rental option.
New Starlink customers can sign up for Residential and Roam plans and rent the Starlink kit for $0 per month. The standard Starlink kit is your router for connecting to Starlink's low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites.
You'll still need to pay the standard shipping and handling fee of $19.
If you cancel your service, you must return your Starlink Rental kit within 30 days. It must be returned in good condition, but normal wear and tear is expected. If you don't return the kit in good condition, then you'll be charged the full price of $549.
This practice is in line with how several Australian telcos already provide modems to customers.
If you rent your Starlink kit and decide you'd prefer to buy it instead, you can request this via support.
While you can self-install the satellite internet provider also now offers free professional installation via CIRCL in Australia. For permanent roof installation, you'll need to purchase a mount during the purchase process. If you opt for installation, you'll receive an email with further instructions on booking it after you check out.
Note that it's illegal to do your own fixed cabling in Australia. Any in-wall, in-roof, or under-floor cabling must be done by a registered cabler, so free installation can help address an extra upfront cost.
At the moment, Starlink has cut the cost of its Residential Lite service (for the first 12 months) in select areas by $20 per month. That brings the monthly price for the first year down to $79 per month, then $99 per month ongoing.
Here's a look at Starlink's Residential and Roam plans you can get a rental kit with:
This offer is available until December 5.
Keep in mind, if you don't stay connected to your Residential Lite plan for the full 12 months, you'll forfeit any remaining discount pricing.
Starlink offers a 30-day hardware trial. If you change your mind within the trial period, you can return the hardware for a full refund (this does not include the first month's plan fees).
