Why Telstra?
If you're ready to jump to a new broadband plan - and only the best will do - there's a reason why Telstra is still Australia's biggest telco. Telstra isn't usually the best option for more budget-conscious customers; but if you're after quality, reliability and speed, Telstra has plenty to offer with a wide range of NBN and mobile broadband plans.
Types of Telstra plans
NBN
If you're after a Telstra NBN plan, you can pick from five speed tiers: NBN 25, NBN 50, NBN 100, NBN 250, and NBN 1000. Just be aware that NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans are only available to addresses that have an FTTP or HFC connection type.
All FTTP premises can get NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans, but only about 70% of HFC addresses can get NBN 250 and 7% NBN 1000. NBN Co hopes all HFC addresses will be able to get NBN 250 plans by the middle of this year.
More info about NBN's speed options is available here, but if you're a heavy user or have multiple household members, we recommend NBN 50 at a minimum.
Telstra NBN plans also include a modem with 4G backup in the event of an outage. If your NBN drops out, you'll be able to continue to use your connection with download speeds of up to 25Mbps. That's the equivalent to an NBN 25 connection.

Be aware that if you leave your Telstra NBN plan within the first 24 months, you might need to pay out your modem. This is equivalent to $9 multiplied by the number of months left in your two-year term. However if you've signed up to the new Telstra Upfront Internet plans and decide to leave within the first 24 months, you just need to simply return the modem to avoid a $200 non return fee.
Mobile broadband
Telstra also has a small range of mobile broadband plans. These can be purchased as a SIM-only option or paired with a portable modem like the Telstra 5G Wi-Fi Pro.

How to switch to Telstra
To find out if you're eligible for an Telstra NBN plan, first check your address in our broadband search engine. If your home is covered by Telstra, all available plans will be listed in the search results.
Decide on the right plan for you, click the Go To Site button and follow the prompts. The Telstra team will help you to organise an installation date and time, plus take care of transferring your home phone number to your new account, where possible.
If you already have an NBN connection with another provider, that's no problem - simply follow the same steps as above. However, since you've already got NBN, you won't need a technician to visit your home or office. Instead, Telstra will be able to simply activate your new NBN service. In most cases, your new plan should be live within a day. Be sure to check that your old NBN plan has been cancelled with your previous provider after your Telstra service is live.
If you're not signing up online, Telstra NBN plans attract a $99 connection fee.
Another important thing to note: while having your premise connected to the NBN is free for most customers (excluding the upfront costs you may need to pay when signing up for a plan), if you're located in a newly developed area with no existing telecommunications infrastructure, you may be charged a $300 New Development Fee by NBN Co.
