Service Description

Vodafone Prepaid Pay and Go service lasts up to 365 days with great Pay as You Go rates. Vodafone 4G coverage is available in all major metropolitan locations and selected regional areas across Australia.

My Credit

The Pay and Go Credit that you get with each recharge can be used for standard national voice calls, standard national text, and data for use in Australia.

Features & Benefits

Credit Rollover

Unused Pay and Go Credit will expire at the end of your recharge, unless you recharge on another Pay and Go Recharge Product before the end of your Credit Expiry Period. If you do this, unused credit will rollover (up to a maximum amount of $250). You must maintain an active Pay and Go Recharge to retain rolled over credit. Expiry period does not rollover.

Roaming for Prepaid

If you are travelling overseas and want to use your Vodafone Prepaid Phone, you will need to activate International Roaming. You can deactivate the setting if you want to at any time. International Roaming rates are charged differently than usage at home, so before you travel you should check roaming rates to understand what you’ll be charged.

More about Vodafone

Vodafone offers great-priced prepaid and postpaid mobile options, especially for customers happy to bring their own phone to a SIM-only plan. But if you're in the market for a brand-new smartphone, Vodafone's flexible payment terms mean there's an option for everyone.

Vodafone mobile quick facts

  • The Vodafone network covers 96% of the population and it has come a long way in recent years thanks to heavy investment.
  • Vodafone offers prepaid (30-, 185- and 365-day expiry),  SIM-only plans and also handsets which you can repay over 12, 24 or 36 months (interest-free).
  • Vodafone has $5 per day international roaming - one of the best roaming offers in the market.
  • Vodafone has a comprehensive suite of new phones available, usually over 20 models to choose from including Apple, Samsung, Google, Motorola, and OPPO

Vodafone SIM-only plans

Here's a quick look at Vodafone's most popular mobile plans:

The Vodafone phone plan range includes these options:

  • Vodafone SIM only no-contract plans that can be paired with a handset on a device repayment plan (up to 36 months)
  • Vodafone Prepaid Plus plans

SIM-only plans

If you’re happy with bringing along your own device, you can sign up for a SIM-only Plan with no contract.

There are three options to cater to lighter and heavier data users. Vodafone calls this data "infinite" which is another way of saying you get "unlimited data". Unlimited data plans are a good way to avoid excess data charges or having to recharge your plan early. How it works is as follows. You get full plan speeds up to your data cap. Once you reach that your plan speeds will reduce to 2Mbps which will provide a very minimal service.

Because these plans are all contract-free, you can move between price tiers as your needs change.

Prepaid plans

For customers looking for a prepaid option, Vodafone also offers a selection of pay-upfront Prepaid Plus plans. You have the option of 28-day expiry or long-term you can choose 185 or 365-day expires.

Customers who opt-in for an automatic plan recharge can save $5 on plan fees. These plans also include international minutes and up to 200GB of data banking.

These plans also have unlimited data but speeds are capped to 1.5Mbps when you use all your full-speed data.

Read our guide to Vodafone Prepaid plans to learn more.

International calls

International calls are available on most of Vodafone's postpaid plans.

Vodafone offers international minutes across Zone 1 and Zone 2. Plans generally include between 100 and unlimited minutes of calls to Zone 1 countries and 100 and 300 minutes of calls to Zone 2 countries.

Prepaid plans also include international minutes starting from 500 mins of calls to Zone 1 and 50 standard international SMS on the cheapest prepaid plan.

International Talk Zone 1 countries

Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States of America and Vatican (Holy See).

International Talk Zone 2 countries

Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brunei, Cambodia, Canary Islands, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Faroe Islands, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Laos, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Macau, Malta, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Northern Mariana Islands, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Russia, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Need a new phone?

You can pair your new device with a Vodafone mobile phone plan and pay off the device over a period of either 12, 24 or 36 months. The 36-month option will result in the lowest monthly bill of the three options but you'll of course be tied to Vodafone for longer. If you want to switch from Vodafone and have an existing phone repayment plan in place you'll need to pay out the full remainder as a lump sum.

Vodafone phone plans

Vodafone offers a wide range of phones on plans, generally over 20 on offer at any time. These are some of the latest phones offered by Vodafone:

Apple iPhone 17

The iPhone 16 range is the latest from Apple. The lineup is polished and there are options for those who just want an entry-level iPhone and maximalists alike. The prices do go up as you add more storage or opt for the better models but getting them on a Vodafone phone plan is a good option if you can't afford to purchase them outright.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7

The latest Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 are foldables worth considering. They've had some big improvements to remove the creases and on the Flip side the front screen can now do even more.

The Fold 7 stands out for those wanting the biggest phone from Samsung (although it comes with one of the biggest price tags).

Vodafone coverage

Vodafone has the smallest mobile network in Australia, behind Telstra and Optus. The Vodafone mobile network currently covers around 25 million Australians or 96% of the population. This figure shouldn't be confused with geographic coverage, however. Even though Vodafone's network is sizeable, there are parts of Australia that it doesn't reach. Check Vodafone's 4G and 5G mobile coverage in our interactive map.

Vodafone perks

Vodafone doesn't have a loyalty program. It tends to focus on offers and discounts to the plans over things like rewards points or cheap movie tickets. That said, there are some real benefits worth talking about.

How to switch to Vodafone

Changing your mobile phone provider can seem like a daunting proposition. We often get asked about how long it takes, whether you can keep your number, and when exactly your number changes hands. The good news is that it is very easy to change telco in Australia, and laws exist that protect your right to switch and ensure you always keep your phone number.

Your provider holds your number, but only as long as you allow them to. If you want to swap to Vodafone, your old carrier will automatically relinquish your number and transfer it when you activate your new service.

Here's the process:

Switching to Vodafone

  1. Find the Vodafone plan you're after and sign up online or in-store.
  2. When signing up, you'll be asked whether you want to 'port' or transfer your current number to your new account. Simply put in your number, and specify your existing provider
  3. After you receive your SIM card (if you order online), you'll need to activate it. Doing this begins the process of transferring your number. If you bought a SIM in-store, this will happen as part of the initial setup.

Note: You your old service will keep working until porting is completed. This typically takes somewhere between a couple of minutes and an hour or two, but there are cases where it can take a day or longer. You'll typically know your new Vodafone plan is live when your previous service stops working.

SIM cards store very little information these days, which means all of your contacts, phone numbers, emails and photos are either on your phone or in the cloud. Switching to Vodafone will not delete any of your personal information from your device.

Vodafone FAQs

What happens if I want to cancel my Vodafone plan?

All of Vodafone's postpaid plans are contract-free, so you can cancel or switch your plan every month without penalty. However, if you're paying for your new phone on Vodafone's interest-free payment plans (over 12, 24, or 36 months), you will need to pay off the remaining balance of your device in full before you can cancel your Vodafone service.

What happens if I go over my monthly data allowance?

If you go over your monthly data allowance you'll find your download speeds much slower than usual. Vodafone offers unlimited data on all its mobile plans but when you use your full allowance the speeds are capped to just 2Mbps on postpaid plans and 1.5Mbps on prepaid plans. Postpaid plans will return to full speed at the start of your next billing cycle while for prepaid plans you'll need to recharge.

What kind of SIM cards does Vodafone use?

Vodafone SIM cards are a three-in-one coming in nano SIM, micro SIM, and standard SIM sizes that you can pop out to the right size that fits your phone. Vodafone also has eSIM (or electronic SIM) available for compatible devices.

Does Vodafone have prepaid plans?

Vodafone offers several prepaid plans, starting from $30 per recharge. These plans have a 28-day expiry and include unlimited Australian calls and texts with data and international inclusions available according to your recharge amount.

If you're an infrequent user or prefer a long-expiry plan, Vodafone has 185 and 365-day options.

Does Vodafone still have a 3G network?

Vodafone has shut down its 3G network, which means you will need a 4G or 5G compatible device to access the Vodafone mobile network.

Does Vodafone offer international roaming?

Yes, if you're on an eligible plan, you can use all of your plan's talk, data, and text inclusions when roaming in over 100 countries, for just $5 per day. $5 roaming is available for up to 90 days in a single calendar year.
