As much as we might like to imagine we are getting shafted by Australian telcos on the price of data, the numbers show we enjoy some of the cheapest data prices in the world.
According to a report published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which was then converted to the colour-coded world map by the Economist, Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) are both in the lowest category indicating that we pay under $20 per month for 500MB of data on a Pre-paid handset subscription.
Meanwhile, North America is called out for being in the highest category of $80 or over per month, one of the only developed nations to be charged this much for such a small amount of data.
ANZ also fairs well when looking at the same cost as a percentage of a country's gross national income, with 500MB of data costing less than 2.5-percent of what we earn each month, on average.
