In weird news, Beats makes iPhone cases now. The Apple-owned audio manufacturer has diversified its product portfolio with cases for the iPhone 16 family.
The cases support MagSafe and have a sapphire crystal paired with a conductive layer to support the iPhone 16's new camera control feature, just like Apple's official cases. They also have the same $79 asking price.
The big difference is materials. While Apple's cases are made from soft silicon, the Beats cases have a hardshell polycarbonate back. There's a soft microfibre lining on the inside, and flexible sidewalls for shock absorption.
Beats iPhone 16 cases come in four colours, not dissimilar to its headphones: black, stone, a teal-ish blue, and purple.
In a press release, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and Beats, Oliver Schusser, said "Beats has always been synonymous with distinctive style and vibrant colours and our new cases are the perfect way to accessorize the new iPhone 16 lineup".
The iPhone 16 cases are Beats' first product outside of audio. Given the big difference between Beats and AirPods is platform-agnostic support, it will be interesting to see if any Beats-branded cases show up for Android phones.
More broadly, it's been a busy year for Beats, with the company recently refreshing its Solo headphones, Pill speaker, as well as introducing new entry-level wireless earbuds.
