Apple has announced a "reengineered" and "redesigned" Beats Pill, marking the first time its launched a portable Bluetooth speaker in since 2015.
The new Beats Pill succeeds the Beats Pill Plus, and comes with an appropriate amount of upgrades. The Beats Pill will last up to 24 hours per charge, which is double that of its predecessor. It also comes with fast charging; you'll get as much as two hours of playback from a ten-minute charge.
The charging port has naturally been upgraded to USB-C. This also lets the Beats Pill charge a phone, or alternatively, it can play back lossless audio over the wired connection if you've got it plugged into a laptop or other device.
Like other recent Beats products, the new Pill is designed to be platform-agnostic. It supports one-touch pairing with both iOS and Android devices, as well as Find My on iOS and Find My Device on Android. If you've paired the Pill with an iPhone or iPad, it will be available as an audio source on any Apple product connected to your Apple ID.
The new Pill is about 10% lighter than the Pill Plus, weighing in at around 680g. That puts it between something like the 925g UE Megaboom 3 and the 430g Sonos Roam. As with both those speakers, the Beats Pill is rated IP67 for water resistance.
On the audio front, Apple says the new Beats Pill has "upgraded acoustic architecture that delivers more powerful, room-filling sound, bigger bass, and improved tonality across the audio spectrum". It should also distort less at higher volumes, and has a 20% upward tilt for better sound projection.
The new Beats Pill is available to order from today, retailing for $249. You'll be able to get in a choice of black, red, or gold.
The Pill isn't the only Beats product Apple has revived recently, with the manufacturing launch its first pair of Beats Solo on-ear headphones in April. The Beats Solo 4 were Apple's first on-ear headphones since 2019.
