On top of announcing its first pair of headphones, Sonos has also revealed a second-generation take on its smallest Bluetooth speaker. The Sonos Roam 2 isn't exactly a significant upgrade, but still has some welcome new features.
Key specs and the overall design are the same as the original Roam. It doesn't seem like Sonos has changed the audio hardware, and you still get the same 10 hours of battery.
Instead, the main improvements come in terms of ease of use. With the original Roam, you had to initially set it up on a WiFi network to use it as a Bluetooth speaker. With the Roam 2, Bluetooth works right out of the box. There's also a dedicated Bluetooth pairing button this time, rather than the single button that acted as both power and pairing in the original.
These aren't the kind of changes existing Sonos Roam owners would upgrade for, but they'll give Roam 2 customers a better initial experience. While audio upgrades would be nice, we were surprised by just how good the original Roam sounded when we first reviewed it in 2021.
The Sonos Roam 2 is available now through the Sonos online store. It sells for $299, and comes in a choice of black, white, green, blue, or orange.
