If you've got an iPhone or iPad, you should update to the latest version of iOS immediately. Apple today released iOS 12.1.4 to fix a major security flaw in Group FaceTime.
Discovered last week, the vulnerability allowed anyone to call an iPhone, iPad, or Mac and listen in before the other person had even picked up. Apple initially addressed this by disabling Group FaceTime on the server side, but iOS 12.1.4 offers a permanent fix and restores Group FaceTime functionality.
Group FaceTime will remain disabled for anyone running iOS 12.1.3 or earlier.
Upgrading to iOS 12.1.4 is easy. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
- Select General
- Tap Software Update
Software updates can be reasonably large downloads, so make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi beforehand. The exact size will depend on your device and what version of iOS you're currently running.
