Exetel has decided to streamline and replace its NBN plan lineup with the aptly named "One Plan".
The new one-size-fits-all plan is priced at $80 per month with download speeds up to 500Mbps and upload speeds up to 40Mbps.
The new plan is only available to customers on an FTTP or HFC connection type.
Exetel's hope is to "cull" the complexity of promotional offers, different plans, and speed tiers.
Group Executive, Consumer, at Exetel’s parent company, Superloop, Mehul Dave said “The telco industry has delivered confusion disguised as control. Way too many plans and too much jargon. And not fast or simple enough. Exetel is changing that today.”
Exetel's previous range came with five free speed boosts per month to the next available speed tier. Speed boosts will stick around in the form of "Warp Speed" upgrades, which let One Plan customers boost their plan up to 811Mbps download speeds and up to 42Mbps upload speeds for $1 per day. In a month with 30 days, customers would look at paying $110 if they activated Warp Speed every day.
A new feature called Hibernate lets customers save $1 per day on their bill by voluntarily throttling their speeds down to 12/1Mbps. Customers can toggle this on and off in the Exetel app. It's designed for customers going away but who might still need connectivity back home for things like security cameras.
Customers will also be able to save $1 per month on their bill when they refer a friend. The friend will also save $1 per month as long as you're both connected to the One Plan.
A Superloop spokesperson confirmed to WhistleOut that there are no changes for current Exetel customers who will remain grandfathered on Exetel's existing plans. If eligible, they can take up the One Plan.
Exetel's One Plan seemingly pre-empts the NBN speed changes happening in September. Households connected via HFC and FTTP able to get download speeds up to 500Mbps on an NBN 100 plan (currently up to 100Mbps) and download speeds of up to 750Mbps on NBN 250 (currently up to 250Mbps).
Exetel's One plan currently best fits in the NBN 1000 speed tier. Here's how it compares to the cheapest NBN 1000 plans in WhistleOut's database:
