After around a year in an invite-only preview phase, Telstra has made its 5G home internet offering open to anyone who wants it. Telstra has just a single 5G home internet plan, with a 1TB allowance for $85 per month.

In terms of speeds, Telstra is reporting typical average speeds of 378Mbps during busy periods, but says they can range between 50Mbps and 600Mbps. Upload speeds are a bit slower, with Telstra reporting a typical average speed of 46Mbp during busy periods, but a range of 10Mbps to 90Mbps.

To celebrate the launch, Telstra is offering customers their first month completely free. If you're not happy, you can just leave. The 5G home internet plan includes a Telstra 5G modem, but is free from modem fees. If you leave within your first 24 months, you'll just need to return the modem within 21 days to avoid being charged for it.

The plan also includes the standard Telstra perks of three free months of Binge for those who haven't tried it before, and Telstra Plus membership for cheap movie tickets and Frequent Flyer style rewards.

While Telstra's 5G home internet plan doesn't have unlimited data, it's aggressively priced when compared to its NBN range. Telstra NBN plans start at $80 per month for NBN 25, or $95 per month for NBN 50. Telstra NBN 250 plans go for $140 per month, and are Telstra's most comparable NBN plan when it comes to typical evening speeds. The 5G home internet plan would be more prone to speed fluctuation, however. Here are Telstra's current NBN plans:

Telstra is the last of The Big Three to widely offer 5G home internet, with Optus and Vodafone both already selling 5G broadband plans. Both Optus and Vodafone offer two-tiers of 5G home internet plan: a cheaper option with speeds capped to 100Mbps, and faster uncapped options. Telstra does of course have the widest 5G footprint of the trio, currently covering over 75% of the population. Read more about checking your 5G coverage here.
