If you're a Dodo or iPrimus customer who noticed your email wasn't working over the weekend, you're just one of many who experienced the same outage.
More than 1,600 Vocus Group customers were impacted by a cybersecurity hack, which was first flagged as 'suspicious' on October 17. It's believed hackers were targeting business emails and mobile services. Dodo and iPrimus email services were temporarily suspended to rectify the issue for the duration of October 18. The matter was finally resolved on October 19, at around 7am (AEDT).
The unauthorised access to 1,600 Dodo email accounts allowed the hackers to SIM swap 34 Dodo mobile accounts. A SIM swap is when a malicious actor takes control of your mobile phone service by getting a provider to cancel your SIM and replace it with a new one.
Since the incident, these SIM swaps have been reversed, and email access has been restored. However, Dodo and iPrimus customers are required to change their passwords and keep an eye on the Vocus Group social media channels for further updates.
On the Dodo website, the telco says customers should call it on 1300 038 224 to set a new password and restore access to their email accounts.
Update 22/10: An earlier version of this story stated that Dodo and iPrimus internet services were also impacted by outages. This was incorrect and we apologise for the error.
