With plenty of decent add-on options, international roaming is becoming much less of a thorn in the side of travellers. amaysim has a variety of flexible options for travellers of all different kinds.

amaysim also offers in-flight mobile roaming with partner airlines via Aeromobile. amaysim international roaming alternatives

amaysim's offers are pretty good depending on what mix of inclusions you need, especially considering the long-expiry period.

Other telcos have some competitive offers as well, so it's worth comparing your options.

Vodafone offers a $5 roaming add-on which allows you to use your local inclusions while overseas. If you're signed up for a Vodafone plan with 50GB, for example, you can access that same allowance while abroad.

Optus postpaid plans have a similar offer with $5 per day for 5GB of data and unlimited talk and text. Prepaid customers can get 1GB for $5 with a one-day expiry. Telstra's international roaming option starts at $10 per day for postpaid customers which gets you 2GB to use. Its prepaid prices start at $10 for 400MB with a three-day expiry.

eSIM has made getting connected overseas so much easier. As long as you have an eSIM-compatible phone, you don't need to worry about buying a physical SIM at your destination. An eSIM can easily be set up over WiFi. This can be done on arrival or even before you leave – so, you can have a mobile connection the moment you land.

How do I turn on international roaming on my amaysim plan?

Once your pack is purchased in the amaysim app, roaming will be automatically activated in eligible destinations. You should receive a confirmation text from amaysim when you land and your device connects to a local tower.

The app will also show your usage summary although the data may not be up to date in real time.

If you want to pause your roaming at any time you can manually toggle roaming on/off in the settings of your device. Or you can turn on aeroplane mode in your settings and use WiFi to connect to a network.
