Apple just announced its 2026 iPhones, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the company's biggest non-folding handset, with a generous 6.9-inch display. While the iPhone 18 Pro Max isn't a huge departure from the iPhone 17 Pro Max, at least aesthetically, it promises a unique new camera, faster performance, and an even bigger battery.
In this guide, we'll look at plans, deals, pricing, and key features for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
iPhone 18 Pro Max plans
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is available on mobile plans from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone. The three providers all offer the choice of 24-month and 36-month repayment terms. Opting for a 24-month term means you own your iPhone 18 Pro Max faster, while a 36-month term results in a cheaper monthly fee. Vodafone now also offers 48-month plans for an even lower monthly fee, but a longer commitment.

Vodafone: If you pick up an iPhone 18 Pro Max on a Vodafone plan, you'll get a $13 per month discount on plan fees for your first 12 months. Vodafone is also offering $200 in extra credit if you trade in an old phone, on top of your old phone's existing value.
Telstra: If you opt for a Telstra iPhone 18 Pro Max plan, you'll get a $10 per month discount on plan fees for your first 12 months. Telstra will also give you $300 in extra credit if you trade in an old phone, on top of your old phone's existing value.
How much does the iPhone 18 Pro Max cost in Australia?
Every iPhone 18 Pro Max configuration is more expensive this year, but the price increase depends on how much storage you want. If you're after a 256GB or 512GB model, you'll only pay $100 more than last year. That's $2,299 and $2,699, respectively
The price increases are much sharper for the larger storage options. You'll pay $3,499 for a 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is a $500 increase on last year, or $4,699 for a 2TB variant, which is a massive $900 hike.

iPhone 18 Pro Max design
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is almost a dead ringer for last year's iPhone 17 Pro Max. It has the same kind of camera plateau on the back, and an aluminium unibody build with a Ceramic Shield glass cutout for wireless charging. The panel is colour-matched to the aluminium this time, however.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max still has a 6.9-inch display, but the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen is a little bit smaller. As a result, it can now display up to three Live Activities at once.
You can get the iPhone 18 Pro Max in a choice of burgundy, glacier, silver, or black.
iPhone 18 Pro Max camera
The iPhone 18 Pro Max has three 48MP cameras on the back: a new 48MP primary lens, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens. The 48MP primary lens now has a variable aperture, which allows it to let in more light at night, but narrow the depth of field in bright lighting for more consistent focus.
On the front, you'll find the same 18MP selfie camera found in the 2025 models. This camera is backed by a square sensor that enables landscape selfie photos while holding the iPhone 18 Pro Max vertically, and face tracking for video calls.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max gets a few camera-related software changes, including cinematic effects that can be added to videos after they've been shot, smart focus tracking for video, and pro controls that let you manually tweak settings like aperture, shutter speed, and white balance.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max camera is identical to what you'll find in the smaller iPhone 18 Pro.

iPhone 18 Pro Max battery
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max has the best battery in any iPhone yet, with up to 43 hours of video playback per charge. That's an increase on the 37 hours the iPhone 17 Pro Max offered. In our testing, we found the iPhone 18 Pro Max was able to get between eight and ten hours per charge. That's enough for two days of moderate usage.
iPhone 18 Pro Max processor
The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses Apple's new A20 Pro chipset. Apple says the CPU is up to 20% faster when compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the GPU is up to 40% faster. This is the same chipset found in the iPhone 18 Pro.
iPhone 18 Pro Max eSIM
iPhone 18 Pro Max variants sold in Australia use a physical SIM card, but also support eSIM.
eSIM (an electronic SIM or embedded SIM) is a rewritable SIM card that’s built directly into the phone. It never leaves your phone. Instead, you simply download a "software SIM" from your provider of choice.
iPhone 18 Pro Max 5G
The iPhone 18 Pro Max naturally has 5G connectivity. WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G can help make it clearer. The drop-down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

iPhone 18 Pro Max plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all selling the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra iPhone 18 Pro Max plans
Telstra iPhone plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your iPhone off over 12, 24, or 36 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Telstra still has Australia's largest mobile network, covering over 2.14 million square kilometres. In addition, Telstra has a partnership with Starlink operator SpaceX, allowing you to send text messages and use select apps via satellite when mobile coverage is unavailable. A clear view of the sky is needed for this.
Telstra is the only telco in Australia to still have a rewards program. As a customer, you earn points for every dollar spent with Telstra, which can then be redeemed for discounts on new tech.
Optus iPhone 18 Pro Max plans
Optus iPhone plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
Vodafone iPhone 18 Pro Max plans
Vodafone iPhone plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have bonuses when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save $5 per month if they bundle a second mobile plan on to their account, and then an extra $15 for each plan after.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
Thanks to a network sharing agreement with Optus, Vodafone's network coverage is now practically identical to Optus' when it comes to 4G.
