OPPO's latest budget phone - the $399 A5 Pro 5G - will receive five years of operating system updates and six years of security updates, a company representative told WhistleOut.
This matches OPPO's software support promise for its mid-tier Reno 13 devices and its flagship Find X8 Pro. It's especially notable because many cheaper handsets tend to have limited software support. Some budget handsets might not even get a single operating system update, but many will receive at least two or three years of security.
We have started seeing improvements in the space, however. Motorola's $499 Moto G75 has also been promised five years of operating system updates and six years of security, while Samsung is promising six and six for the $549 Samsung Galaxy A36.
Software longevity aside, the OPPO A5 Pro 5G stands out thanks to IP69 water-resistance. Not only can it survive being submerged under water, it also has protection against high-pressure water jets. This is the highest level of protection against water.
Other key specifications for the OPPO A5 Pro 5G include a 6.67-inch 720p+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of expandable storage, and a 5,800mAh battery with fast charging. On the back, there's a 50MP primary lens and a 2MP depth lens, and on the front, there's an 8MP selfie camera.
The OPPO A5 Pro 5G is available now in a choice of mocha brown or olive green. You'll find it at retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, The Good Guys, and Harvey Norman. If you the phone from OPPO directly, you'll get a $30 gift card for the OPPO online store.
