OPPO today announced the Reno 11 F 5G, its latest mid-tier phone in the Reno series. While the handset isn't atypical for a mid-tier phone, it benefits from an IP65 water resistance rating.
Very few OPPO phones have historically never had formal water resistance ratings, except for flagship devices such as the Find X3 Pro and Find X5 Pro. Some of OPPO's cheaper devices such as the recently released A79 have an IP rating for splash resistance, but the Reno 11 F 5G is the first mid-tier phone to take that further.
A rating of IP65 means the Reno 11 F 5G is dust-tight and is protected from water jets from any direction. You can't submerge the phone, but OPPO says it's durable enough to survive a downpour. Splash-resistant devices are only rated for light rain and sweat, for comparison.
IP ratings are still far from standard on mid-tier devices, but Samsung's Galaxy A series has made them more prevalent. The $599 Galaxy A34 5G is currently Samsung's cheapest phone with water resistance, coming with an IP67 rating.
Other key specifications for the OPPO Reno 11 F 5G include a 6.7-inch 1080p+ display with a 120hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor, 256GB of expandable storage, 8GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery. In terms of rear cameras, there's a 64MP primary lens, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP macro lens. On the front, there's a 32MP selfie camera.
The OPPO Reno 11 F 5G will be coming to Australia in the second quarter of the year, but pricing has yet to be announced. The phone will however cost 10,990 Thai Baht, which is approximately $470 at current exchange rates. Its predecessor, the Reno 10 5G cost $749 locally, however.
