Telstra has confirmed overnight there is a secondary issue following yesterday's outage that is impacting some calls including Triple Zero (000). According to Telstra over 100,000 customers are potentially impacted.
The telco says that in some cases people calling Triple Zero may receive an error message or that their phone will try to connect to another mobile network.
In a statement Telstra said “Overnight, our team have made good progress reducing the occurrence of the subsequent Triple Zero calling error by approximately 90%. and will continuing work to eliminate this issue entirely."
If you experience any issues calling Triple Zero, please immediately retry your call. We have seen good success of calls connecting on retry."
In line with legal obligations where Telstra detects a failed call to Triple Zero it will conduct a welfare check. While these obligations were already in place, there is a higher level of scrutiny following the Bean Review's recommendations after the Optus Triple Zero outage in September 2025.
Telstra says if you have an issue connecting to Triple Zero you should wait to connect to an alternative network if one is available — it can take up to 90 seconds. You can also try using a different phone to make the call.
The telco says it's working urgently to resolve the issue with an update to come at 1pm.
Yesterday's issue which was caused by a timekeeping issue has at this stage been fully resolved.
We'll update this story as more information comes to hand.
