Apple announced the new iPhone SE (2022) this week - a budget handset that looks like an iPhone 8, but it has the brains of the iPhone 13.
The iPhone SE is priced at just $719 for the 64GB model, it's currently the cheapest iPhone available out of the box. If you’re looking into the iPhone SE, chances are you’ll want a budget-friendly plan to match. Or maybe you’d just rather save money on your phone bill so that you can spend it on more interesting things, like a large wheel of cheese or a lifesize cutout of Jeff Goldblum.
Regardless of why you’re saving your pennies for, we’ve compiled the cheapest iPhone SE plans available on each network.
iPhone SE: TLDR
The SE comes with a 4.7-inch Retina Display, and a Touch ID fingerprint reader but it houses the A15 processor which should make the SE just as fast as Apple’s latest flagships.
You’ll get a single 12MP camera on the rear, but we found that due to Apple’s computational photography software the sole camera still performed exceptionally well in previous SE generations. It is still missing Night Mode however.
This is the first iPhone SE to have 5G capabilities.
Optus
If you’re an Optus loyalist then you can still get an affordable plan to go with your new iPhone SE. The cheapest Optus option is the $45 Optus Choice Plus Plan which comes with 20GB of data, but that might not be enough for some users. The next step up will cost you $55 per month and give you a solid 80GB to use per month. For the vast majority of Australians this will be more than enough data to get you by.
However, if you really want to go all out on data, the $115 Optus Plus Promo Plan is down to $65 per month and comes with 500GB per month. The promotional pricing will last your first 12 months with the provider before reverting back to the original cost, but because this plan is contract-free you can always swap to a cheaper alternative once the deal is up.
While 500GB is an obscene amount of data, Optus plans on a single account can share data. So if you jump on the big lad, and the rest of your family opts for the cheapest plan you’ll still have a veritable mountain of data to share between you all.
Telstra
Telstra, unsurprisingly has the most expensive plans to bundle with your iPhone SE, but it does have a range of deals going on to sweeten the pot.
The cheapest plan available is the $55 Small Upfront Plan which comes with 40GB of data. However this plan doesn’t come with access to the 5G network which means you won’t be able to take full advantage of the new features of this handset.
The $115 Extra Large Upfront plan is discounted to just $65 per month for the first 12 months. Meaning that for $10 extra per month you will not only get access to 5G, but you’ll also get a whopping 180GB of data to play with. Since this plan is contract-free you can always drop back down to a lesser allowance once the first year is up.
Every plan above $55 per month comes with a bonus 12 months of Disney Plus bundled in as well.
