New data from Vodafone shows eSIM is becoming more popular as customers ditch the classic plastic SIM card.
According to Vodafone, one in three new customers who signed up in the last 12 months now use the technology.
A Vodafone spokesperson said "The rapid adoption of eSIM technology reflects a growing awareness and readiness among Australians to ensure uninterrupted connectivity, even during unforeseen network disruptions."
"There is a significant shift towards making environmentally conscious decisions among our customers, which has fueled the surge in digital solutions like eSIM. This not only enhances connectivity but also reduces waste."
Here are eSIM plans popular with WhistleOut users from $20 per month and under:
An eSIM or embedded SIM, is a chip installed into a mobile device as a replacement for a physical SIM card slot. Many manufacturers still support both.
Using an eSIM reduces plastic consumption which is great for the environment – but eSIM also has a host of other benefits.
So long as your phone is eSIM compatible, with an eSIM you don't need to go to the shops and purchase a SIM card or order one online to be delivered. You can simply sign up to your preferred mobile provider online and download the eSIM profile to your phone.
You can also use an eSIM to have a second number on the same phone whether that's one for work and personal use or a backup in case your primary network has an outage.
There are also a range of eSIM providers that offer eSIMs for travelling overseas. These providers often have options that are better than some Aussie telco's roaming add-ons.
