As rumoured, HMD Global - the relatively new owners of the Nokia name - have revived the classic 3310 as a spruced up feature phone. There's just one catch: it won't work in Australia.
The new 3310 only offers 2G connectivity, which will soon be extinct in Australia. Telstra was the first telco to axe its 2G network at the end of last year, Optus will follow in April, and Vodafone in September. Well, given that the 3310 will be available in the second quarter of the year, Vodafone customers could potentially get a few months of usage out of the 3310 throwback before it can't make calls or send texts any more. And it doesn't even have Wi-Fi to fall back on.
That being said, the new 3310 was likely never going to be a device that made it to Australia anyway, unless you decided to import it. While reviving the 3310 is certainly a buzzworthy story, Nokia's feature phone business has more so focused on parts of the world where smartphones have yet to become ubiquitous.
In terms of specs, the new 3310 has a 2.4-inch polarised colour display, 22 hours of talk time, a month of standby, 16MB of expandable storage, and a 2MP camera. Oh, and it plays Snake. I guess you could try and import one just to play Snake. If you're game, expect to pay around $80 plus shipping.
