Hot off the heels of the A73 launch, OPPO is bringing two more "all screen" smartphones to Australia: the R11s and the R11s Plus. Both will be available from February 5, retailing for $659 and $779 respectively.
The R11s is a six-month refresh of last year's R11. The biggest physical difference is the jump from a 5.5-inch 16:9 display to 6-inch 18:9 display in a body that's roughly the same size. This has resulted in a screen-to-body ratio of over 85%, up from around 72% on the R11; it's a big screen in a small package. The move to an extra tall display does however mean the R11s' fingerprint reader is now on the back.
Other new functionality includes facial recognition. In our hands-on time with the R11s, we found it worked quite well, although OPPO explicitly notes that the technology is less secure than using the fingerprint reader or a PIN to unlock your phone.
The R11s also has a new dual rear-facing camera setup, with a 16MP lens and a 20MP lens. OPPO says the secondary lens is optimised for lowlight performance, and camera app will automatically swap between the two lenses depending on how bright or dark your surrounding environment is. They can be used in tandem for a portrait mode.
Key specifications for the R11s include a 6-inch 1080p display, an eight-core Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 3,200mAh battery, and a 20MP selfie camera. The R11s runs a customised version of Android based on Nougat.
As the name suggests, the R11s Plus is a larger version of the R11s. The screen is a larger 6.43 inches, there's an extra 2GB of RAM for a total of 6GB, and the battery is a beefier 4,000mAh. Other specifications remain the same.
The OPPO R11s will be available outright through JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, RetraVision, and Mobileciti. If you'd prefer to grab it on a plan, Optus, Virgin Mobile, Vodafone, and Woolworths Mobile will be ranging it. You'll be able to get the R11s in a choice of red, black, or gold. Colour availability may vary from retailer to retailer.
The OPPO R11s Plus is exclusive to JB Hi-Fi. You'll be able to pick up the R11s Plus in a choice of black or gold.
