Spriggy, the company behind the successful money app for children and teenagers, has just launched Spriggy Mobile plans. Spriggy's plans are specifically designed with kids and parents in mind.
Spriggy's prepaid plans come with a monthly recharge and run on the Optus network. All of its plans come with unlimited calls, texts and there are three options for data to suit children's usage at different life stages.
To prevent bill shock international calls and roaming are blocked on Spriggy's plans and there are no excess data charges. Parents are able to manage their child's plan via the Spriggy App - where they can also use Spriggy's Pocket Money product and features.
Here's a look at Spriggy's new mobile plans:
| Plan name | Price per month | Data | Data banking | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $25 | 6GB | N/A | 4G |
| Essential | $30 |
25GB | Up 75GB | 4G/5G |
| Plus | $40 | 40GB | Up 150GB |
4G/5G |
Spriggy Mobile plans also come with parental control features. Parent's can see their child's call history via the Spriggy app and enable or disable mobile data at any time.
The 25GB and 40GB plans come with 5G network coverage and data rollover up to 75GB and 150GB respectively. This means any data that remains unused by the end of the recharge period is carried over to the next.
Additonal data can be purchased at $10 per GB but importantly it has to be added and isn't automatically topped up when included plan data runs out.
Research undertaken by Spriggy from its own members found that the most common age for a child to get their first phone is at 12 years old (30%) with 80% of parents expecting to make the purchase for their kids between 10 and 12 years of age. The most commonly cited reason for purchasing their child's first mobile phone was the child catching public transport to school for the first time.
CEO of Spriggy, Alex Badran said "Our members frequently share that keeping their kids safe online is one of their main concerns, and we understand this is a critical challenge for parents today."
"With over 1.2 million Australians already using our digital products, we’re in a unique position to understand the needs of families deeply. Our Sydney-based team has the expertise to create innovative solutions that address these needs and drive positive change in the industry."
