Telstra customers today can redeem 200GB of storage on Microsoft’s OneDrive service free of charge.
The cloud storage bonus is available to personal customers with either a prepaid or postpaid mobile account, mobile broadband service or home broadband.
To grab the storage, head over to Telstra’s redemption page. You’ll need to log in with your Telstra account ID and you will need your Microsoft account log in to link the storage to your account.
Best of all, the data seems to have no expiry date. Unlike similar promotion from companies like Samsung, which tend to offer the data for a year or two, the Telstra bonus should remain a part of your OneDrive account well into the future.
How to make use of the One Drive data
If you’re new to cloud storage, this bonus may not seem like such a generous offer. However, you will soon find it is very useful.
Like competitors Dropbox and Google Drive, OneDrive has dedicated applications available on many popular operating systems. There are apps for Windows and Mac laptops and iPhone, Android and Windows Phone phones and tablets.
Once you have downloaded one of these apps you can set automatic backup schedules for specific types of data. On your laptop you may want to auto backup specific documents. On your phone you may want to send all of your photos to the cloud for safe keeping.
To get started, head over to the Microsoft OneDrive page and see which of your devices has an app to download. Alternatively, you can upload and manage files using your web browser.
