Ultimate Ears' latest party prone portable speaker - the Wonderboom - is now available in Australia retailing for $129. Sitting below the UE Boom 2 in the company's Bluetooth speaker hierarchy, the Wonderboom is tiny 360-degree speaker that will float if dropped in water.
Unfortunately, the Wonderboom isn't going to replace your rubber ducky as your favourite bath-time companion; floating is more so meant as a survival mechanism in case the speaker gets kicked into the pool and even partial submersion can affect Bluetooth connectivity. That being said, the Wonderboom is rated IPX7 for water-resistance and has a hanging loop, so you can always hang it up in your shower for some sweet getting-ready-for-work tunes. I mean, what better way to wake up than to Megadeth's "Holy Wars"?
Or you know, you could use the loop to attach it to a backpack or something, but that's nowhere near as cool.
The Wonderboom offers up to 10 hours of battery life, recharges over microUSB, and has an effective Bluetooth range of 33m. It's worth noting that the Wonderboom is a purely Bluetooth affair: unlike past UE speakers, there's no aux input for wired sources. Although I'm not sure how passing the aux cord would even work in the shower.
JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman are both ranging the Wonderboom in six colour options. They're also available direct from the Ultimate Ears website.
