28 Days Later, 28 Years Later, 28 Weeks Later

Back in 2002, 28 Days Later introduced the world to a fresh-faced Irish actor with a name that was impossible to pronounce for anyone outside of the British Isles, one Cillian Murphy. You can’t really say Murphy went underappreciated in the decades since – I think he’s been greatly appreciated in every role he’s been in – but it was Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later that ultimately set him on the path towards his 2023 Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer.

Cillian Murphy’s storied career aside, 28 Days Later also changed the trajectory of quote — unquote zombie movies, thanks to its fast-moving undead predators; a terrifyingly original take on the classic ambling brain-muncher.

23 years later, 28 Days Later remains a bonafide classic of the horror genre. One that offers a glimmer of hope amongst all the carnage and bloodshed. The same could be said for the latest entry to the series, 28 Years Later, which continues the story of a decimated and quarantined UK, picking up… wait for it… 28 years after the outbreak of the bloodborne virus.

If you know how the passage of time works, you probably don’t need any guidance on what order to watch the 28 movies in, but you may need some help tracking down where to stream them if you’re living in Australia.

How to watch 28 Days Later

28 Days Later

28 Days Later is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Stan and is available to rent or buy via digital services like Apple TV.

The first film in the series, 28 Days Later follows Jim (Murphy), a bicycle courier from London who awakens from a coma 28 days after the initial Rage virus outbreak. Alone in a seemingly deserted London, Jim’s search for answers quickly leads to a confrontation with the aggressive and athletic rage zombies.

The 2002 film was directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. The duo teamed up again for 2025’s 28 Years Later.

How to watch 28 Weeks Later

28 Weeks Later

The 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later is streaming on a few different services. If you signed up for Stan to watch the first film, then you will also have access to 28 Weeks Later. Otherwise, you can catch it on Disney Plus, or purchase it via digital services like Apple TV.

Five years after 28 Days Later released, the sequel arrived in cinemas under a new director and writer, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The sequel opens at the beginning of the outbreak, when father and husband Don Harris (Robert Carlysle) abandons his wife in a moment of cowardice when the infected attack their cottage.

28 Weeks Later, Don is reunited with his son and daughter (who were mercifully abroad during the outbreak) in a safe zone on the Isle of Dogs, a heavily guarded peninsula in East London. When the children, Tammy and Andy, sneak out of the safe zone in search of their mother, Don’s dark secret is threatened.

28 Years Later is available to stream on-demand via Amazon Prime Video. You can also buy and rent it digitally for $9.99 and $6.99, respectively, through stores like Apple TV.

As the title suggests, 28 Years Later picks up nearly three decades after the Rage virus outbreak. While life in Continental Europe has regained some normalcy, the British Isles remain quarantined and overrun with infected. While a few survivors remain, the community of Lindisfarne lives a quaint and isolated existence, protected from the mainland by the causeway and a few crackshot archers guarding the gates.

When 12-year old Spike learns of a witch doctor on the mainland, he sets out to solve the mystery of his mother’s crippling illness.

When does 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple release in Australia?

The sequel to 2025's 28 Years Later, titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, released in cinemas on Thursday, January 15. The two movies were filmed back-to-back and released only seven months apart.

There's no telling how long until The Bone Temple is released on streaming services. 28 Years Later was available to buy or rent on services like Apple TV just one month after its cinema release, then landed on streaming on-demand in September. Following that trend, The Bone Temple will likely get a home release somewhere between late February and early March and a streaming on-demand release around late April or early June.
