Just a year-and-a-half after getting into NBN, amaysim has given up and sold its internet business to Southern Phone. As such, the company is no longer selling NBN plans, and all existing amaysim internet customers will be moved to Southern Phone over the course of the next month.
If you're an amaysim NBN customer, there is however some good news: not much will change. While your new bill will come from Southern Phone, there won't be any changes to your service or the price of your existing plan. You'll be on the same speed tier, keep your data allowance, pay the same amount, and stay on your existing billing cycle.
And on the plus side, you might even get faster NBN speeds during peak hour. Southern Phone is reporting NBN evening speeds of 46Mbps and 80Mbps for NBN 50 and NBN 100 plans, respectively, which is a slight bump up from the speeds of approximately 42.2Mbps and 76.9Mbps amaysim reported before it ceased selling broadband.
amaysim says customers shouldn't experience any downtime during the transition, and won't have to do anything on their end to keep connections working. Customers will receive a notification from Southern Phone when their service has been transferred.
No other amaysim services - mobile and energy - will be impacted by the changes.
amaysim listed "unsustainably high wholesale costs" and "intense competition" among the reasons it decided to get out of the NBN market.
