Typical evening speeds refer to the download speeds you’re likely to achieve during the busiest period of the day - 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Optus’ speeds made quite the leap from 80Mbps during this time to the 90Mbps now being advertised. The increase now sees Optus sitting on par with Superloop as the second fastest provider of NBN 100 plans in the Australian market.
Here are the fastest NBN 100 plans available.

Optus’ NBN 50 plans have also gotten faster, but by only 1Mbps bringing the typical evening speeds to 45Mbps. Although this isn’t as impressive of a jump it still puts Optus tied at fourth place in the NBN 50 speed category.

The speed increase comes in the wake of Telstra’s latest offering which all but promises congestion free NBN speeds. It is our understanding that both providers are taking advantage of backend changes at NBN Co in order to provide faster speeds for customers.
While Optus isn’t being so bold as Telstra to promise 100% of your maximum possible speeds the offering is still a big improvement for fixed line NBN customers.
Optus currently has three tiers of NBN plan in the market - Internet Entertainer Lite, Internet Everyday and Internet Entertainer. Each of these options include home phone line rental, a modem with 4G backup on the Optus mobile network, an Optus Sports subscription and the entertainer packages also include Fetch TV.
Regardless of which tier you choose you’ll get unlimited data as well as 4G backup in the instance that your NBN connection fails for whatever reason. It is important to note that 4G speeds are capped at a maximum of 12Mbps download and 1Mbps upload, which is the equivalent of an NBN 12 connection.
All plans are contract free, but if you decide to leave during the first 36 months you’ll need to pay out the prorated value of your modem. This is equal to $7 multiplied by the remaining number of months left on the term.
