If you're looking at Samsung's 2024 phones, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the crown jewel. It features a new and improved titanium build, a massive 200MP camera, new Galaxy AI features, and of course, the classic S Pen.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra plans
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is available on mobile plans from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone. All three providers offer the choice of 24-month and 36-month repayments. A 24-month term means you own your Galaxy S24 Ultra faster, while a 36-month term brings down your monthly cost.

Optus: Optus customers can get a free pair of Galaxy Buds 3 when they sign up to a Galaxy S24 Ultra plan.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra features

The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a few notable hardware changes: a new titanium frame, a new 50MP 5x telephoto lens, and a new flat display. The more significant new feature, however, is Galaxy AI.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra AI
The entire Galaxy S24 family features Galaxy AI, which is baked into large parts of the phone experience. Galaxy AI capabilities include the following:
- Web page and note summaries
- Live two-way translation on phone calls with transcription
- Translation in messages
- Tone suggestions for messages (to make a message more casual or professional, for example)
- Circle to Search - a feature where you can circle anything on your display to start a Google search
The Galaxy S24 family also have AI photo editing features, similar to the Pixel 8 family. This can be used to resize and reposition elements with an image, or to reframe your shot by generating anything outside of the original photo. There are also AI-powered edit suggestions, but these are lower touch, and tend to be things like tweaking contrast or removing stray reflections.
Some Galaxy AI features, such as photo editing, require an internet connection. Others, such as live translation, are done entirely on the phone.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra design
The Galaxy S24 Ultra isn't too different from the Galaxy S23 Ultra aesthetic, but there are some key changes. While it keeps a 6.8-inch display, the screen is now flat, rather than curved. It uses Gorilla Glass Armor for protection and anti-reflective coating, making it great to use outdoors. The phone also features a titanium build - much like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As with its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra still features an integrated S Pen.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra camera
The Galaxy S24 Ultra's main camera upgrade is a new 50MP 5x telephoto lens. This replaces the 10MP telephoto lens on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. While the optical zoom on the lens is lower, the new lens has a wider aperture. This should increase shooting time, and make it more reliable at capturing blur-free shots. The Galaxy S24 Ultra can still crop into 10x zoom.
The other Galaxy S24 Ultra cameras are in line with what we saw on the Galaxy S23 Ultra last year: a 200MP primary lens, 12MP ultra-wide lens, and 10MP 3x zoom lens.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra battery
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has the same 5,000mAh battery as last year's model. In our testing, we were able to get around six hours of screen time per charge. That's the best we've seen on an Android flagship recently, and will give you a day of moderate usage with a very healthy buffer. Lighter users could potentially manage two full days.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra processor
The Galaxy S24 Ultra uses Qualcomm's latest flagship processor: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Galaxy S24 Ultra has specifically been tuned for Samsung, and offers slightly higher performance than the regular variant.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has 5G connectivity, but variants sold in Australia don't support mmWave 5G. mmWave is a faster type of 5G that telcos have slowly been rolling out, but very few devices support it locally.
WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G and 3G can help make it clearer. The drop-down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.
Galaxy S24 Ultra eSIM
Every Galaxy S24 model sold in Australia supports eSIM, but still has a physical SIM slot.
eSIM (an electronic SIM or embedded SIM) is a rewritable SIM card that’s built directly into the phone. It never leaves your phone. Instead, you simply download a "software SIM" from your provider of choice.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all ranging the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra Galaxy S24 Ultra plans
Telstra Galaxy plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your Galaxy off over 12, 24, or 36 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Optus Galaxy S24 Ultra plans
Optus Galaxy plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
Vodafone Galaxy S24 Ultra plans
Vodafone Galaxy plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have bonuses when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20% and doesn't include handset repayments.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
How to choose the best Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra plan for you
There are a few key factors to keep in mind when picking a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra plan:
- Answering "how much mobile data do I use" can help you avoid overspending. Don't pay for more data than you need
- Decide whether you want to pay off your phone shorter on a 24-month plan or get a smaller bill over a longer period of time on a 36-month plan
- If you're a frequent overseas traveller consider any international roaming inclusions
- You may also want to make international phone calls so check if the destinations you may be calling are included in your plan
