Nothing today added a new entry-level handset to its mobile portfolio, but the pricing is steeper than one might expect. Dubbed the Phone 4b, the device retails for $629, which is just $20 cheaper than Nothing's far more capable Phone 4a.
Budget phones have been getting more expensive this year thanks to the "component crisis", but the Phone 4b represents one of the biggest jumps in price we've seen so far. While it is ostensibly a new series for Nothing, it effectively supersedes last year's Phone 3a Lite, which retailed for $439 - and is still available. It's always possible Nothing will increase the price of the Phone 4a, but at time of writing, JB Hi-Fi has it available for $649.
Key specifications for the Nothing Phone 4b include a 6.77-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Pro chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, IP64 water-resistance, and a 5,200mAh battery. There's a 50MP primary lens and 8MP ultra-wide lens on the back, and a 16MP selfie camera on the front.
Nothing says the Phone 4b will get three years of operating system upgrades, and six years of security updates.
The Phone 4b is available in a choice of black, white, or blue. Pre-orders start today ahead of a July 17 release date.
