OPPO Reno 16 devices

OPPO today announced local pricing and availability for the Reno 16 series, the latest additions to its "semi-premium" phone range. Once again, OPPO is bringing two Reno 16 devices to Australia: the high-end $1,599 Reno 16 Pro and the mid-tier $999 Reno 16 F. The phones will be available from July 23.

Unsurprisingly, both phones are a step up in price from the Reno 15 devices OPPO launched locally at the start of the year. The Reno 16 Pro is $200 pricier than the Reno 15 Pro it succeeds, while the Reno 16 F is $320 more expensive.

While those are steep hikes, the Reno 16 F benefits from a much newer MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, which replaces the 2022-era chip in the previous model. In addition, the 2MP macro lens has been swapped out for a 50MP telephoto lens.

Key specifications for the Reno 15 F include a 6.57-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, the aforementioned MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, IP69 water resistance, and a 6,500mAh battery. There's a 50MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP 3.5x zoom lens on the back, and a 50MP selfie camera on the front.

The Reno 16 Pro maintains the smallish stature of the Reno 15 Pro, and is a smaller upgrade compared to the Reno 16 F. The main change is a new chipset: the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super.

Key specifications for the Reno 16 Pro include a 6.32-inch 1216p+ display with a 120Hz refresh, the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super chipset, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, IP69 water resistance, and a 6,000mAh battery. On the back, there's a 200MP primary lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP 3.5x zoom lens. On the front, there's a 50MP selfie camera.

The Reno 16 Pro and Reno 16 F ship with Android 16, and an OPPO spokesperson told WhistleOut the pair will get five major operating system upgrades and six years of security updates. That's in line with what OPPO promises for its flagship devices like the Find X9 Pro and Find N6.

An OPPO spokesperson also told WhistleOut the company will be launching its Bubble accessory in Australia. The Bubble is a magnetic puck that sticks to the back of select OPPO phones (including the Reno 16 family), and acts as a secondary screen. This can be used for taking photos, but also has a digital pet function. Pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed.
