As part of Samsung's Galaxy S24 unveiling, the manufacturer teased an entirely new product in a short video: the Galaxy Ring. As the name suggests, the Galaxy Ring is a health and wellness wearable designed for your fingers, but that's all Samsung revealed during its event.
Analyst Avi Greengart claimed to have been hands-on with prototypes of the Galaxy Ring in a post on Threads, and said that it is "ridiculously light", will be available in sizes up to 13 and three finishes, and is set to launch later this year. He added that pricing is still to be determined.
While we don't know exactly what the Galaxy Ring will do yet, other smart rings like the Oura could offer a hint. The Oura Ring tracks the wearer's heart rate, sleep, activity, stress, ovulation, and activity and recovery. Since it doesn't have a screen, the battery lasts up to seven days. All metrics are accessed via a companion app. Oura Ring pricing starts at USD$299.
This sort of functionality is already available in most smartwatches - including Samsung's own Galaxy Watch portfolio - but one can make the argument that wearing a ring is much of an imposition. The form factor could also be appealing to those who don't want to ditch their traditional watch for a smart one.
