Samsung will hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event at 11pm on July 22, where it is expected to reveal the latest iteration of its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip devices.
In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung is expected to showcase a device that has been dubbed the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. While ostensibly also a book-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is tipped to have a different aspect ratio. Most foldables to date have been almost square when unfolded, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to be more in line with a traditional tablet.
The wider aspect ratio should make running two apps side-by-side a little more natural, as well as cut down on black bars when watching videos. Samsung obviously hasn't confirmed the existence (or name) of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, but the event's invite image features "a new shape unfolds" as the tagline.
Apple's debut iPhone foldable this year is also expected to make use of a wide aspect ratio.
Pre-orders for Samsung's new foldables will start on July 23. Customers who register for more info on Samsung's website can get a $50 voucher to use towards accessories when they pre-order one of the new handsets.
Samsung will also use the event to share new Galaxy Watch models.
