Sonos just announced its second-generation over-ear headphones, and the pair fix one of the original's biggest omissions.
Dubbed the Ace Ultra, the new cans are properly integrated into the Sonos ecosystem, rather than standalone Bluetooth headphones with Sonos branding. A button on the headphones sends whatever you're listening to on your Sonos system to the headphones, while a second press sends it back.
Other key changes include new drivers, two extra microphones, improved noise cancellation and five extra hours of battery for a total of 35 per charge. Sonos also says the pair have adaptive EQ that can compensate for air leaks due to glasses, hair, or jewellery.
The Sonos Ace Ultra retail for $699, which is the same as what the original Sonos Ace launched for in 2024. Pre-orders are running now ahead of a September 29 release date. In addition, Sonos has cut the price of the original Ace to $599, but it has currently discounted them to $449.
Alongside the Ace Ultra, Sonos also revealed a third-generation Beam soundbar, and a refreshed take on its operating system.
The new Beam, dubbed the Beam Ultra, benefits from a 7.1.2 configuration, which should result in a fuller sound compared to the original's 5.0 setup. It sells for $1,099 locally and will be available from September 29.
On the operating system front, Sonos 27 allows for AI models such as ChatGPT and Gemini to connect to Sonos systems, and lets you use portable Sonos speakers in home theatre setups, and facilitates natural language voice controls. All products compatible with the current generation Sonos app will get Sonos 27.
