Prime Video channels: Everything you need to know

Amazon Prime is one of the most value-stuffed subscriptions going around. Not only do you get Prime Video TV shows and movies, you also get free expedited delivery, gaming, music, and reading inclusions. All of that for $9.99 a month or $79 per year.

Outside of the $2.99 monthly fee to remove ads, there are dozens of Prime Video channels you can pay for to add even more content to your viewing experience. Here's everything you need to know about Prime Video channels.

What are Prime Video channels?

Prime Video channels are an optional premium add-on for additional content and streaming services. Much like Fetch TV or Hubbl, adding these channels effectively turns your Prime Video app into a one-stop shop for more entertainment than what you get with a basic Prime Video sub. Practically speaking, every service you add is also charged from Amazon, rather than directly from multiple other sources, helping to keep it all a bit neater on your monthly bill.

How much extra do Prime Video channels charge?

If you've got a Prime Video channels charge on your Amazon bill, it's because you've added an extra-cost channel (or two or few). Most Prime Video channels offer a seven-day trial (except for NFL Game Pass), with flat monthly pricing. You may be able to find better trials by buying direct; DocPlay, for instance, had a 14-day trial while Prime was only offering seven days. On top of that, HIDIVE, iwonder, and Shudder, offer different monthly plan options or annual plans instead of just a single add-on option via Prime Video.

If you wanted to add them all, you'd be looking at an extra $300+ on top of a monthly Amazon Prime subscription. Yikes. While it is potentially convenient to keep subscriptions in one place, the prices may vary between Prime Video channel and buying directly from the source. Some like AMC Plus, beIN Sports, and Britbox let you save money by purchasing an annual option. NFL Game Pass is cheaper via DAZN, while Paramount Plus offers the cheaper ad-supported subscription options if you buy direct.

At the time of writing, iwonder was offering a $0.99 monthly fee for Telstra Customers (for the first 90 days). But sometimes it goes in Prime Video's favour. Chaupal and OUTtv had cheaper monthly subscription prices if you pay via Prime Video. You can check out a full breakdown of all of the Prime Video channels below.

What content is included with Prime Video channels?

Because it's impractical to spend $300+ on adding every Prime Video channel, you'll likely want to pick the ones that are most appealing to you. Here's a breakdown of what you get on every Prime Video channel add-on in Australia.

Acorn TV

Acorn TV is mainly about British mystery shows, but it also has other drama and comedy TV series from around the world. The $6.99 monthly add-on cost covers thousands of hours of ad-free viewing, including The Brokenwood Mysteries, and Mystery Road.

AMC Plus

For thousands of hours of US movies and TV series, consider adding AMC Plus. The $8.99 monthly add-on cost includes popular shows like Dark Winds, and Mayfair Witches, plus movies like Deathstalker, and Oddity.

Apple TV Plus

Apple TV ditched the "Plus", but it's still a plus for hundreds of choices for mostly American TV series and movies. Pay $15.99 per month for a Prime Video channel add-on to binge popular TV series like Slow Horses, and The Last Frontier, or movies like The Lost Bust, and The Family Plan.

beIN Sports

Prime Video has a smattering of sports (mostly cricket and NBA), but for $15.99 per month, you can add a lot more with beIN Sports. That monthly add-on cost covers soccer, tennis, rugby union, and handball.

BritBox

For thousands of hours of British entertainment across hundreds of options, consider a BritBox add-on for $13.99 per month. That add-on subscription gives you access to popular series like Karen Pirie, and Downton Abbey, plus movies like Six Minutes to Midnight, and Operation Mincemeat.

Chaupal

Chaupal has 1,000+ hours of South Asia content, including movies, short films, and web series. The $5.99 monthly fee includes popular movies like Marriage Palace, and Lover, alongside TV series like 84 Toh Baad, and Bathinda Junction.

Crunchyroll

The Prime Video channel add-on for Crunchyroll costs $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year for Crunchyroll Fan. Alternatively, pay $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year for Crunchyroll Mega Fan. Both subs have ad-free viewing of on-demand anime, but Mega Fan has streaming to four devices, offline viewing, plus access to the Crunchyroll Game Vault.

Curiosity Stream

There are thousands of documentaries and educational series to watch with a Curiosity Stream add-on for $5.95 per month via Prime Video. For TV series, check out Titans: The Rise of Wall Street, or Deadly Science. If you prefer documentary movies, try An Honest Liar, or Miles in the Life: The Story of a BMF Drug Trafficker.

DocPlay

You'll want to consider a DocPlay subscription if you're a fan of documentaries, with thousands to choose from. That $9.99 monthly add-on grants access to docuseries like The Vietnam War, and Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, plus documentaries like The Lost City of Melbourne, and Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father.

Gaia

For $15.99 per month, you can add the Gaia channel to your Prime Video subscription, which includes thousands of alternative media films, plus a bunch of TV series. For shows, consider popular picks like Open Minds, or Beyond Belief with George Noory. For flicks, try The Phenomenon, or Life Off Grid.

The Great Courses Signature Collection

HBO Max

The HBO Max Prime Video channel add-on has two choices, albeit without the option for HBO Max Premium. Pay $11.99 per month (or $119.99 per year) for HBO Max Basic With Ads. Alternatively, pay $15.99 per month (or $159.99 per year) for HBO Max Standard. Either option gives you access to thousands of hours of content, including popular TV shows like Task, and Peacemaker, plus movies like Superman, and Sinners.

Hayu

If watching hundreds of hours of US reality TV shows sounds like your jam, you'll want the Hayu add-on for $7.99 per month. For popular picks, try the many iterations of Below Deck, or The Real Housewives.

HIDIVE

For hundreds of anime shows and movie choices, consider a HIDIVE add-on for $8.99 per month. While there are potentially better plan choices by subscribing directly, you get access to the same content, including movies like Vampire Hunter D, and Aura, or TV series Call of the Night, and The Eminence in Shadow.

iwonder

For thousands of hours of content, including award-winning documentaries, docuseries, and short films, iwonder costs $6.99 per month. With a trial or sub, try popular documentaries like The Men Who Stole the World, and The Milk System, or docuseries like Nisman, and Floyd on Spain.

Lionsgate Plus

For $3.99 a month, you can add Lionsgate Plus to Prime Video, which offers hundreds of movies and thousands of TV episodes. Popular movies include Kickboxer, and Gangs of New York, while you can also binge shows like Ash vs Evil Dead, and Black Sails.

Love Nature

The Love Nature Prime Video channel add-on costs $3.99 per month for a bunch of international wildlife documentaries. Depending on how chill you like your documentaries, you can try safer picks like Orangutan Jungle School, or 'meatier' options like Africa's Hunters.

MGM Plus

If you don't already have enough US-centric movies and TV series, MGM Plus is waiting for a $5.99 monthly add-on. This Prime Video channel add-on is the home of popular series like Fargo, or The Handmaid's Tale, as well as movies like the Rocky franchise, or horror classics like Army of Darkness.

Mubi

The main attraction of a Mubi subscription is a monthly curated section of movies and short films, but you also get a library of movies. It costs $12.99 per month as a Prime Video add-on for popular flicks like Hereditary, and Escape from New York.

NBA League Pass

If the exclusive NBA offering on Prime Video isn't enough, you may want to pay for the NBA League Pass add-on. It costs $21.99 per month for a specific team, or either $24.99 per month or $32.99 per month for League Pass and League Pass Premium, respectively. The cost covers live matches, highlights, and replays.

NFL Game Pass

NFL Game Pass is the priciest Prime Video channel add-on at $54.99 per month (when it's not on special). That cost covers live matches, full replays, highlights, and additional NFL-focused viewing.

OUTtv

For thousands of LGBTQ+ movies, series, and documentaries, add the OUTtv Prime Video channel for $3.99 per month. The monthly subscription includes popular series like Absolutely Fabulous, and Shadowlands, plus movies like Queens and Cowboys, and Splinters.

Paramount Plus

You get more options if you buy direct, but Paramount Plus costs $10.99 per month as a Prime Video channel add-on. Binge popular series like MobLand, or The Gilded Age, or get stuck into movies like The First Wives Club, or The Godfather.

PlayKids Learning

If you're looking for content for younger kids, consider the PlayKids Learning Prime Video channel add-on for $4.99 per month. The sub includes a range of short educational animations, including popular picks like Alphablocks, and Numberblocks.
