What is Secret Invasion about?
Secret Invasion is part of Phase Five of the MCU which kicked off this year with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Secret Invasion will follow up on concepts seeded in 2019's Captain Marvel which first introduced the alien shapeshifter's the Skrulls. Styled as an espionage thriller Secret Invasion will see the former S.H.I.E.L.D director, Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) race to save the world from a renegade group of Skrulls - who can appear as anyone. Expect to find Marvel's trademark cameos, easter eggs and quite possibly that particular brand of Marvel humour that you either love or hate. From the trailer, it does look like Secret Invasion is set to have a more serious tone than most releases in the series.
Here's the official synopsis from Disney Plus: "In Marvel Studios’ new series 'Secret Invasion,' set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."
Samuel L. Jackson is joined by Martin Freeman, Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn and Don Cheadle who are reprising their respective MCU roles of Everett Ross, Maria Hill, Talos, and James Rhodes "War Machine". Newcomers to the universe include Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, Emilia Clarke as Gi'ah and Kinglsey Ben-Adir as Gravik.
