Samsung has announced it will unveil its latest handset, the Galaxy S25 Edge next week. The slimmer device will be revealed via livestream on May 13 at 9am (AEST).
A statement from the manufacturer has given a few hints of what's to come: "This is more than a slim smartphone. Every curve, contour and component reflects a breakthrough in precise engineering to create a premium experience worthy of the S series name."
Among the highlights was a reveal that the Galaxy S25 Edge will feature the same 200MP main lens available on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Rumours surrounding the Galaxy S25 Edge, which went by the moniker "Galaxy S25 Slim" have been around for a while. Samsung officially announced the device in January but didn't give any specific information other than that it would have a slimmer design.
We'll need to wait or the official announcement to learn more about the full camera set-up, processor and battery life.
Given the slimmer form factor (which we should expect to be thinner than this year's lineup), there may be some level of compromise when it comes to at least the battery performance.
This is the first return to the "Edge" in the main S series lineup since the Galaxy S7 Edge in 2016. Back then, the term referred to the display that curved around to the edge of the device.
There's no sense that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is meant to be a budget option, but we don't know exactly how much it will cost. The Galaxy S25 started at $1,399 while the most expensive variant of the Galaxy S25 Ultra clocks in at $2,749. It's likely the Galaxy S25 Edge will slot in somewhere between the two.
We also don’t know just yet if it will get the same treatment as the rest of the S25 lineup when it comes to the release. Samsung was quite reserved when it released the first Galaxy Fold; which was only available through the manufacturer directly. We'll have to add it to the "wait and see list" as to where it will be stocked (although the wait is not much longer now).
