Leading insights company Opensignal has awarded Optus the most awards in its latest Mobile Network Experience report.

Opensignal's report is published twice-yearly and looks at the performance of the Telstra, Optus and Vodafone mobile networks across four categories: 4G Experience, 5G Experience, Coverage and Consistency.

Across 14 categories, Optus secured six outright wins and two joint wins with Vodafone.

Optus continues to dominate when it comes to 5G download speeds, winning the category for the ninth time back-to-back.

Optus' average 5G download speed came in at 208.4Mbps, nearly 20% faster than Opensignal's Telstra users and nearly 30% faster than Opensignal's Vodafone users. Optus' average 5G speeds were about the same as what was recorded for the Opensignal report from April.

Vodafone won each category for upload speeds.

You can see each network's results for 4G/5G download and upload speeds here:

National results - Speed (Mbps)
4G download speed 4G upload speed 5G Download speed 5G Upload speed
Optus 59.3 7.3 208.4 13.8
Telstra 53 6.9 174.5 13.3
Vodafone 40.1 8.8 161.8 14.7

Optus' network also won awards for the 4G/5G Video and Games Experience categories. These categories are made up of a 100-point score with criteria including how fast loading times are, video quality and latency (which is the time it takes for data to travel to and from the server to your device).

Moving on to the Coverage categories, it's a different picture. Telstra's network took home both Coverage Experience and 5G Coverage Experience for the fifth time in a row. These categories award the largest footprint of geographical coverage in populated areas.

However, Optus and Vodafone tied for Availability (99.3%), and Vodafone clinched 5G Availability outright (67.8%) nearly twice Telstra's second place score of 34.3%.  The Availability categories are scored as a percentage of time users spent with 4G or 5G signal.

Consistent Quality (measured as a percentage of tests) was won by Vodafone outright (80.6%) which pulled ahead after a joint win with Optus earlier in the year. Consistent Quality measures if a provider's network is adequate to support common mobile application requirements at a level that is ‘good enough’ for users to maintain typical tasks on their devices.

Finally, Optus and Vodafone took a joint win for Reliability Experience with scores of 929 out of a possible 1,000. Telstra scored 921. The Reliability Experience is made up of signal availability, data connectivity, task completion and sufficiency metrics.

You can see the full list of wins here:

Opensignal runs tests on devices from a selection of users on each mobile network via its own app. The data for this report was collected between July 1 and September 28, 2025.
