Sydney Sweeney has been appearing on-screen since the tender age of 12, scoring one-off roles in TV shows like Heroes and Criminal Minds. But her career really took off after her appearance as the intensely devout Gileadean Eden Blaine in The Handmaid's Tale's second season.
If you're a fan, here are her top-rated TV shows and movies you need to add to your watchlist.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017-2025)

While she's only featured in seven episodes, The Handmaid's Tale is quite possibly THE television role that catapulted Sydney Sweeney into stardom.
Sweeney's portrayal of Eden Spencer, a recurring character in the second season, was highly praised and her character's development throughout the season continues to elevate the overall tone of the series. This, if any, is a great starting point to fully appreciate her acting abilities.
The first five season of The Handmaid's Tale are available on Stan. The sixth and final season is currently exclusive to SBS On Demand.

Her troubled home life, bullying at school, friendships and breakups are all key elements to Euphoria's enduring popularity.

Based on the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name, Sharp Objects follows a young crime reporter, Camille (Amy Adams), who returns to her hometown to investigate a double homicide. Camille has recently undergone treatment for a mental illness, which threatens to plague her as her investigation gets underway.
Sweeney appears as Alice, Camille's 16-year old roommate in the psychiatric facility she attended. Sweeney's performance is highly-emotional, and hard-hitting, definitely one to add to the watchlist!

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019)

Although her role in this Tarantino blockbuster is minor, it's still jampacked with loads of other well-known actors which you can bet she learned a thing or two from!
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood takes place towards the end of Hollywood's Golden Age in the late 1960s and coincides with the Manson Family Murders (though Tarantino offers a very different outcome). Sweeney plays 'Snake' a young member of Charles Manson's cult. As mentioned, her role is very small, she appears briefly as a lookout at the Spahn Ranch when Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) arrives (blink and you'll miss it). Her character is based on a real-life Manson follower, Dianne Lak.
Writer/director: Quentin Tarantino | Cast: Sydney Sweeney (obviously), Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant, Austin Butler, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino
Language: English | Rating: MA15+

The Housemaid (2025)

At the time of writing, The Housemaid is the latest film by Sweeney and she has a MUCH larger role in this than Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.
Without spoiling anything, Millie Calloway (Sweeney), is a young maid to the stunning yet erratic Nina (Seyfried), her handsome husband Andrew Winchester (Sklenar), and their young daughter. However, soon things quickly unravel and the audience is taken down more twists and turns than a Mazda commercial.
This is another film, yep, you guessed it, based on a book (The Housemaid by Freida McFadden), and lives up to the hype thanks to the cinematography, character development, and on-screen chemistry between various actors. Sweeney's portrayal is nuanced in the face of some truly wild situations - you have to see it to fully appreciate her.
The Housemaid is currently showing in Australian cinemas.
Writers: Rebecca Sonnenshine, Freida McFadden | Cast: Sydney Sweeney (obviously), Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Mind-bending rollercoaster
Currently: In cinemas
Reality (2023)

One of Sydney Sweeney's lesser-known movies also happens to be her most highly-rated. Reality is a 2023 thriller based on the true story of Reality Winner, a former NSA translator accused of leaking classified government documents to the media that proved there was Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential election. Sweeney plays the lead role of Reality Winner in a restrained, paranoid thriller that sees Winner interrogated in her home by two FBI agents. Based on the stage play Is This a Room (which itself is based on the interrogation transcripts), Sweeney and her two costars spend the majority of the movie in a single room as their intense conversation slowly unravels the truth.
Reality is currently streaming on SBS On Demand and Mubi.
Creator: Tina Satter
