Another streaming service has punted its free trial. As of September 26, Foxtel's sport streaming app Kayo will no longer offer a seven-day free trial to new customers signing up for one of its three plans.
This won't impact existing users, who are already paying month-to-month but new users will now be charged a minimum of $25 from the first day they sign up once the free trial is removed.
In removing its free trial, Kayo will join the ranks of streaming heavyweights Netflix and Disney Plus, both of which removed their own free trial offers some time ago. Hopefully, Netflix's influence only spreads so far. We've already seen Binge introduce ads and Disney Plus is looking to follow Netflix's lead by blocking password sharing.
If you're mourning the loss of Kayo's free trial, there's still hope for you. The streaming service will still offer Kayo Freebies. This is in essence a free version of the Kayo streaming platform that offers all the advanced features, like HD streaming, SplitView and live stats, but offers a limited selection of free sports.
You can find free NRL matches, free AFL, and NBL, as well as the WSL (World Surfing League) on Kayo Freebies. Not every match or event will be streamed for free but there's a decent selection available.
