amaysim is expanding beyond prepaid, with plans to start selling NBN "soon".
The Optus-owned telco hasn't provided too much information on what its actual NBN plans will look like, but it will offer bundle discounts to existing mobile customers. The plans will also come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, where customers will be able to get their money back within their first month if they're unhappy.
More broadly, amaysim Vice President Vir Nath told WhistleOut the company intends to differentiate its plans "through a combination of competitive pricing, exceptional customer service, and innovative offerings, including enhanced customer support with AI-driven solutions".
"We understand the cost-of-living pressures many Australians face, so our plans are designed to provide high-speed internet at affordable prices," said Nath.
amaysim didn't provide an example of what customers can expect to pay, however, and the most affordable NBN plans are set to get more expensive across the board from July 1.
This won't be the first time amaysim has sold NBN plans. The telco first started offering NBN in May 2017, but got out of the business in October 2018, selling its customers to Southern Phone. At the time, amaysim cited "unsustainably high wholesale costs" and "intense competition" among the reasons it decided to get out of the NBN market.
This was before Optus acquired amaysim, however, and Nath says that being part of a larger business will allow it to be more competitive.
"Being a part of the Optus family has strengthened our capabilities and resources, enabling us to re-enter the market with a robust and competitive offering," said Nath. "Optus' extensive infrastructure and support have provided us with the necessary leverage to ensure sustainability and high-quality home internet for our customers."
Nath added amaysim mobile customers have been asking for it to start offering NBN.
"Our customers have expressed a clear desire for amaysim to bring its hallmark simplicity, value, and customer-centric approach to NBN services. We are confident that with our renewed strategy and the backing of Optus, we can meet these expectations and provide an exceptional NBN home internet experience."
Lastly, Nath said market conditions have changed thanks to the completion of the NBN rollout.
amaysim has yet to provide a firm date for when it will start offering NBN, but is taking expressions of interest through its website.
amaysim isn't the only telco set to enter the NBN market this year. Boost Mobile plans to start selling NBN in the third quarter of the year, and also plans to offer bundle deals to its existing mobile customers. Boost Mobile founder Peter Adderton told WhistleOut the telco also plans to differentiate on flexibility, giving customers to the option to increase and decrease speed tier based on their needs.
