Superloop NBN Plans Review: The Verdict
Superloop NBN comes with a recognisable name as well as affordable monthly prices. So what's the catch? The provider doesn't doll out any extras with it's NBN plans, and support options are limited, but if you're looking for a cheap provider Superloop is worth considering.
What we love
- Excellent value for money
- No contracts
- Plenty of speed options with decent typical evening speeds
What could be improved
- No extras
- Limited support options
Overall:
Picking an NBN provider can be difficult. It's the same network, so aren't they all the same? Are bigger names actually better? The short answer to both of these questions is no, but we'll explain more below.
You have probably heard of Superloop - the NBN provider has great prices and relatively quick evening speeds, making it a popular choice across the board. In this review, we'll look at value, support options, and the extras you can get for being with Superloop.
Before we start, here's Superloop's current range of NBN plans:
Superloop NBN plans: Value
To judge value, we're comparing your monthly fee to the typical evening speeds an NBN provider advertises. We want to see exactly how much speed a dollar buys you with Superloop and how that compares to the rest of the market. Right now we're not taking any discounts or bonuses into consideration, but instead looking at NBN 50 and NBN 100 plans.
Here are Superloop's NBN 50 plans compared to the competition:
And here is how Superloop's NBN 100 plans compare to the competition:
Superloop is among the cheapest NBN providers out there, but it does lose out slightly when it comes to speed. Superloop reports 50Mbps typical evening speeds for its NBN 50 plans, and 96Mbps for NBN 100.
The vast majority of providers now offer congestion-free NBN 50 plans, but the same can't be said for NBN 100. While there is an uptick with how many providers are maxing out typical evening speeds for this speed tier, Superloop is not one of them.
In saying that 96Mbps is still an admirable evening speed, and nothing to be scoffed at. You're unlikely to see a practical difference in your downloads between 96Mbps and 100Mbps, but it does mean that the price you pay per Mbps is slightly worse value than other providers like SpinTel for example.
What are typical evening speeds?
Typical evening speeds refer to the NBN download speeds you can expect during the busiest hours of the day - typically between 7pm and 11pm - due to congestion.
Because of the way the NBN is designed, just paying for an NBN 100 plan doesn't guarantee you'll get those speeds the entire time. If you want great speeds during peak hours, you'll want to look for a provider that reports high typical evening speeds.

All Superloop NBN plans are entirely contract-free, with no set-up fees.
Superloop NBN plans: Support
It can be difficult to practically rate customer support as it can vary so drastically from person to person. Even within the WhistleOut team, there have been times we have experienced excellent customer service from a telco, and other times that it has been trash.
Instead, we are rating telcos based on the support options available. The more avenues a provider has for customers to be able to contact them, the higher their investment is in helping customers.
Here is how Superloop's support options compare to the competition:

Superloop has four support options: phone, email, chat or social media.
In personal experience, I had almost no wait time on the phone to Superloop and the operator was incredibly helpful and speedy to get my enquiry through, but as previously stated that is just one experience. Take it with a grain of salt. You can also connect with Superloop on Twitter or Facebook.
Support is available on 1800 57 87 37 seven days a week, between 8:30am and 6:30pm AEDT on weekdays, and 10am and 6pm ACDT on weekends.

Superloop is very much an NBN provider in the sense that that is what you'll get. In exchange for cheap prices, you'll just get that connection.
Naturally, perks and extras are just that - fun extras. They're never really something to base your decision on but they can help to soften the fall if you're paying a higher price for your internet connection.
