Telstra is apparently determined to sell you all the things. Not content with having launched a range of gadgets you can now pay off on monthly instalments with your Telstra postpaid mobile or broadband bill, Telstra has also started selling Foxtel to both fixed broadband and postpaid mobile customers, at a highly discounted rate.
Those rates are:
- Entertainment + drama packs - $20 per month for 12 months
- Entertainment + movie packs - $20 per month for 12 months
- Entertainment + sport packs - $29 per month for 12 months
- Entertainment + sport + drama packs - $49 per month for 12 months
- Entertainment + sport + movie packs - $49 per month for 12 months
- Platinum HD pack (everything) - $110 per month for 12 months
Every pack comes with a $100 standard installation
If you're looking at getting Foxtel and are either already contracted to Telstra or thinking about contracting with Telstra, these are seriously good deals, around $30 cheaper than the same packs bought directly through Foxtel. (Except the Platinum HD pack, which is currently $99 direct through Foxtel on a 12 month contract for new customers, as part of a promotion.)
The discounted rates are only available to customers who are "new to Foxtel" or "new to Foxtel from Telstra". That means you can't have an existing Foxtel service or have had one in the last three months. After 12 months, you'll have to pay full price for your Foxtel through Telstra, but your subscription will be month to month which means you can cancel at any time.
Foxtel from Telstra packs come with a free iQ2 set-top box. Or an iQ4 set-top box which is free or 1c per channel per year for access to Chelsea TV, MUTV and LFCTV on the sports pack. The iQ4 set-top box will let you record up to three shows at once, replay selected shows and store up to 345 recorded shows in SD. It will also allow you to watch content in 4K resolution, but you need a compatible TV and the Foxtel Platinum HD or Foxtel Sports HD packs with access to Foxtel's 444 channel.
Foxtel from Telstra: Is it worth it?
It's important to note that these packs are not the only way you can get Foxtel through Telstra. If you're looking at Telstra broadband, you can get a Streaming Bundle for $99 per month which comes with unlimited data, NBN 50 speeds (if you have NBN) and a free 24 month subscription to Foxtel Now, Foxtel's streaming service. The Foxtel Now subscription comes with one starter pack which is valued at $25 per month and comes with Lifestyle and Pop channel packs, including coveted HBO shows like Game of Thrones and Westworld.
As a streaming service, Foxtel Now doesn't have any installation fees attached, and with the Telstra streaming bundle you get a free Telstra TV streaming device valued at $192 in the bundle, which will stream Foxtel Now directly onto your TV screen.
If you're looking at unlimited data with a Telstra broadband plan anyway, you're already looking at an $89 per month bill, with only $10 extra to add the streaming bundle to your plan. If you have a good internet connection at home, this could be the better option.

It's also disappointing to note that up until now Telstra postpaid mobile customers could get a 24 month subscription to a Foxtel Now starter pack for free with plans costing $99 or more (handset repayments not included). If you're unlucky enough to be signing up to a Telstra postpaid mobile plan today and want Foxtel, there's no longer any way to get it for free.

Other Foxtel from Telstra packs
Telstra is also selling the standard Foxtel entertainment pack for $29 per month for 12 months to its postpaid mobile and fixed broadband customers. The pack includes a $100 installation fee and a $75 fee for an iQ2 set-top box. This is not a discounted rate but will allow you to bundle your monthly Foxtel bill with your Telstra bill.
