iiNet NBN review
The best value from iiNet NBN plans is for new customers, where there's a practical speed option for almost every NBN user, plus the option to get a $0 preconfigured modem-router
What we love
  • Cheap introductory pricing
  • A plan speed for every user

  • $0 modem-router
The essentials
Plans and pricing

The best value is reserved for iiNet NBN plans, but while there's a solid choice of speed tiers, the prices aren't great when typical monthly fees kick in. Read more

Internet speed

Plan speeds are great for most iiNet NBN plans but start to slow down for its fastest plans. ACCC data also has iiNet last for speeds. Read more

Customer service

There's a good selection of support options if you need help, but reviews on consumer review websites range from average to bad. Read more

When it comes to internet, iiNet is a household name in Australia. And it's easy to see why, particularly if you're a new customer, thanks to competitive introductory discounts. But like its parent company TPG, typical pricing isn't overly competitive once the promo period expires.

There are, however, some reasons to consider sticking with iiNet once promotional pricing ends, including a home phone line and a performative modem-router. If you want a specific NBN speed tier, chances are good that iiNet has an option for you.

While not slow, iiNet's speeds start to drop off for its priciest plans, and ACCC quarterly data shows iiNet lagging behind other NBN providers. In terms of support, iiNet has a good selection of choices for its customers, but Product Review scores are only around the middle of the pack as far as the NBN providers in our database are concerned.

iiNet's plans and pricing

iiNet is no stranger to promotional discounts for new customers, which may even stretch to a full year. When that promotional pricing ends, though, you're better off looking elsewhere as iiNet's typical monthly pricing ranges from middle of the pack to downright pricey. Here's a quick look at iiNet's charging practices:

  • No contracts with $0 setup fees (for standard connections)
  • NBN services are billed in advance, but the unused portion is refunded to you if you cancel
  • Competitive introductory discounts
  • Average typical monthly pricing
  • BYO device; alternatively, add an iiNet WiFi Max modem-router for $0 upfront
  • PAYG home phone calls included, or add a call pack for a monthly fee

iiNet offers a near comprehensive range of NBN plans, including the slowest/cheapest ones up to the fastest available to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) homes. If you're a new iiNet customer, you can typically expect promotional pricing for at least the first half year you're with iiNet. After that, iiNet typical NBN plan prices range from comparatively average to expensive.

There aren't any contracts with iiNet internet plans, though, so you're free to leave whenever you like. While there aren't any upfront fees for iiNet NBN plans, those living in new developments may have to pay a $300 New Development Charge (a fee passed on from NBN Co).

Here's a list of iiNet's fixed-line NBN plans, ranked in terms of introductory price:

iiNet's internet speed

While iiNet's NBN speeds aren't bad, they're not as fast as competing plans in our database, particularly for the faster speed tiers.

ACCC results

iiNet is part of the 10 NBN providers tracked in the ACCC quarterly performance report. While its download and upload speeds improved between the October 2025 and December 2025 reports, iiNet is still middle of the pack for downloads during the busy hour (100.6%) and downloads during the busiest hour (101.2%). For comparison, Optus was the fastest in the December 2025 report with 103.7% and 104.5%, respectively.

In terms of upload speeds, iiNet came in last again with 88.6% upload speeds during the busy hours. Compare that with the Superloop 92% result in the same category, and there are faster NBN providers out there. Note that NBN providers typically overprovision download speeds – that's how you get results above 100% – whereas upload speeds aren't typically overprovisioned.

Typical evening speeds

iiNet has parity for its NBN download speeds up to and including its NBN 500 plan. Its NBN 12, NBN 25, NBN 50, and NBN 500 plans report 12Mbps, 25Mbps, 50Mbps, and 500Mbps, respectively. Note that those self-reported download speeds are above what's representative of the percentages in the ACCC data. Adjusted, they'd be 12.19Mbps, 25.40Mbps, 50.80Mbps, and 508Mbps, respectively. Admittedly, those are still all great download speeds.

Things slow down a bit for iiNet's NBN 750 and NBN 1000 plans, with 640Mbps and 800Mbps self-reported typical evening download speeds, respectively. In fairness, those are conservative using iiNet's ACCC busy-hour download percentage, which would be 762Mbps and 1016Mbps, respectively. iiNet's self-reported upload speeds are comparatively healthy and also slightly conservative relative to the ACCC's data on iiNet's upload speeds during the busy evening hours.

iiNet's NBN plan features

Aussie Broadband, iiNet, and Superloop are the perkiest NBN providers in our database. But iiNet still has a good selection of plan features, including a $0 modem-router, a home phone line, and more.

iiNet customers can knock $5 off their monthly plan fees by pairing an internet plan with an eligible mobile plan. Check your iiNet Toolbox for eligible iiNet bundling plans.

Home phone line

iiNet NBN plans include PAYG calls. You can also pay an additional monthly fee to add call packs:

  • Basic Call Pack: $5 per month for unlimited local, national, and mobile calls in Australia
  • Value Call Pack: $10 per month for the Basic Call Pack perks, plus 100 international minutes
  • Value Call Pack: $10 per month for the Basic Call Pack perks, plus unlimited international calls to 23 destinations

NBN modem-router

When you sign up for an iiNet NBN plan, you can BYO NBN-compatible networking device or opt for the iiNet WiFi Max modem-router. It costs $0 a month but has a $10 delivery fee. Stay connected for 24 months to keep the modem-router. Alternatively, return it in "good working order" within 21 days to avoid paying a hardware exit fee.

Internet credentials required

iiNet is one of a shrinking number of NBN providers in our database that use the Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet (PPPoE) to connect its customers. You need to input a username and password with PPPoE to get online. Note that if you go with the iiNet WiFi Max modem-router, it should arrive with your PPPoE details preconfigured.

No CGNAT

CGNAT is used by many NBN providers in our database and can prove problematic for anyone looking to host servers. Thankfully, iiNet doesn't use CGNAT, so customers won't have these issues.

Other broadband plans

Most Aussies use fixed-line NBN technologies to connect to the internet, but iiNet also offers NBN plans to those homes using NBN Fixed Wireless and Sky Muster satellite NBN technologies. If you don't want NBN, iiNet has both 4G and 5G home wireless internet plans. You can find these plans in the widget below.

iiNet's customer support

Because customer service experiences can vary greatly between people and providers, we prefer to look at other metrics. iiNet has a good number of support pathways, albeit with average user ratings on Product Review.

iiNet's customer support channels

WhistleOut customer satisfaction survey

Score: 4.16/5

In 2025, we ran a WhistleOut customer satisfaction survey. iiNet scored 4.16 out of 5 for overall user satisfaction, behind Telstra, Superloop, Dodo, Origin Broadband, and Aussie Broadband. Survey participants also gave the following ratings to iiNet:

  • Speed satisfaction: 4 out of 5 (behind Superloop, Dodo, Origin, Aussie Broadband, and Telstra)
  • Reliability satisfaction: 4.04 out of 5 (behind Superloop, Aussie Broadband, Origin, and Telstra)
  • Price satisfaction: 3.4 out of 5 (behind Superloop, Dodo, TPG, Vodafone, Origin, Optus, Aussie Broadband, and Telstra)
  • Customer service satisfaction: 4 out of 5 (behind Aussie Broadband)

CHOICE Telco Satisfaction rating

Score: 76% overall satisfaction

In the 2025 edition of consumer advocacy organisation CHOICE's performance and satisfaction report, iiNet scored 84% for its Best Brand NBN score (a mix of speed and satisfaction). iiNet was only behind Aussie Broadband (88%) and the combined Dodo/iPrimus (85%), equal with Telstra and TPG. For CHOICE's NBN satisfaction score, iiNet was equal second with 76%, shared with Dodo/iPrimus but behind Aussie Broadband (84%).

Here's how iiNet ranked for CHOICE's overall NBN speed score:

  1. Exetel and Superloop 96%
  2. Dodo and iPrimus 95%
  3. Telstra 95%
  4. TPG 93%
  5. iiNet and Optus 92%
  6. Aussie Broadband 91%

TIO complaints

Decreased vs last quarter

While the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) doesn't take market share into account – potentially skewing the number of complaints relative to an influx of new customers – it's a helpful measure of customer satisfaction.

In the TIO report covering FY 2025 Q4 to FY 2026 Q1, iiNet had a 14% reduction in complaints: from 434 in FY 2025 Q4 to 372 in FY 2026 Q1. See the full TIO complaints report.

Product Review star rating

Score: 3.1 stars

iiNet has close to 10,000 user reviews on Product Review, but at 3.1 out of 5 stars, it doesn't rank as well as Swoop (4.8), Moose (4.6), SpinTel (4.5), or Aussie Broadband (4.5). Users rated iiNet 3.7 for value (6,400 ratings), 3.7 for transparency (5,800 ratings), and 3.8 for customer service (6,500 ratings).

While we don't track it as much because it doesn't include as many NBN providers as Product Review, iiNet's Trustpilot rating is 1.3 out of 5 stars from close to 2,000 reviews.
